Questions & Answers

Can we get this stuff in crystals instead of pellets? I don't want my softener getting clogged, as some have provided review saying so.

Asked by: mark
I read don't fill up your tank like salt, one bag at a time is better to avoid sitting there for long periods.

Will this product have an affect on low PH (acidity)?
Asked by: Waycos
Potassium Chloride is chemically called KCI ( one atom K for Potassium and one atom CI for Chloride) and has no PH. You will use up two K ions for one CL ion. The potassium pellets are put into a brine tank with some water. the ion beads are rinsed/soaked in the solution which charges the beads with the potassium chloride ions called the regeneration cycle. Once that is done, it's ready for your city water to come in. The Calcium/Mag Ions in your city water are drawn to the beads and the Potassium ions are replaced 2:1. I am told that does not change the PH/acidity but I still can't say for sure. And there is no standard tap water it's different in every city. I would recommend you do a water test on your own water to find out for sure.

I'd recommend it over typical water softening products, because it has a superior, if somewhat "Salty," taste and it is economical and resists "Bridging."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good purchase This product is necessary for millions of people who are fighting high blood pressure. Thank you Home Depot for keeping a supply of his product at a reasonable cost. I realize transportation is the major cost od shipping but since you have trucks already going out for delivery. Thanks for your service.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needed an alternative I needed an alternative and looked for potassium chloride for my RainSoft Water Softener of 10 years. I just started on my 3rd bag and so far so good. This was the only choice I had from the Home Depot I am closest to and I hope that they will eventually have more products of this nature available to their customers. The price is high but I am guessing it has a lot to do with supply and demand. I am willing to try it out a little longer and for my health's sake.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best price for Potassium I have been using this product for about 1 year now, I go through about a bag per month. The other reviewers mention it being dirty and clogging up there softener. I am not sure what type of softener they are using but I have a separate brine tank that I empty my bags into and have never had any issues or noticed a bunch of gunk at the bottom. It is true its not pellets, this is definitely large chunk crystals, I actually prefer those for my brine tank as it takes them long to dissolve and the brine water can really absorb it before my softener goes through another cycle.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Clogs the softener Do not buy this brand of potassium chloride. This clogs your system because it is crystals which don't dissolve very well. You need to look for actual pellets or cubes in potassium chloride (this brand only comes in crystals, even if they tell you its pellets). This brand of potassium also leaves alot of residue. Save yourself repairs and the hassle. If you can't find another brand of potassium chloride (Morton is the best), then just use the regular salt/sodium chloride option. In a nutshell this wrecks havoc on your water softener system.
