Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in our Drolet wood stove products. Like any wood burning stove, this appliance need to have a proper vent or chimney. Many times a proper chimney can cost as much or more as the stove itself. Whether you are venting the stove up through the roof or through the wall, you will be using a "Class A" chimney system. Class A chimney can be purchased from several different vendors but do some homework first. Whatever brand of chimney that you start with, you will need to purchase all other components from this same manufacturer. In most cases the "class A" chimney will be required to terminate about 2 feet above the peak of the home. This unit will provide heat with our without electricity but please understand this is a zone heater which means all of the heat will be provided from one location at the stove itself. Do not expect the entire home to be evenly heated while using a single wood stove.

Q:is this too large for my 1970's leaky 950 sq ft mobile home?

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your interest in our Drolet wood burning stoves. Heating with wood is always tricky. Sometime the home is too hot and sometime too cold. After getting your stove very hot internally, it is important to burn a stove at a good efficient "mid-range" after that. If you put too much wood in to a large stove like this, you will be tend to smolder the flames and not get peak efficiency and might even create some creasote issues. Without knowing much else about the home and where you live, I would suggest that you might consider looking at the Escape 1800. This stove box is 2.4 cubic feet vs. 3.3 of the Black stag. Please understand that you are considering a "zone heater". This is not a furnace that has the ability to move air through an entire home. You will have to get creative to move heat away from the stove and into the back bedrooms. A stove fan does little other than circulate air just around the stove itself. Good Luck...stay warn.
