Home Depot sells covers for smokers. I purchased a cover for mine from them.

Can this be used as a regular grill, such as for hamburgers and hot dogs?

Yes, it can double as a grill by removing the center section. The firebox on the bottom has two adjustable vents along with the vent in the domed lid to give perfect cooking temps. I used it this past weekend for grilling and did a fabulous job cooking meats and vegetables.

I'm excited to begin smoking meats and other dishes in this compact portable smoker. I have friends who have been smoking foods for a couple of years and I like the flavor of smoke without the charred effects of cooking over direct flame. This smoker seems well made. The assembly directions were straightforward and everything fit properly. I wish the damper controls at the bottom had closer tolerances but that is the only complaint. There are some good videos on youtube showing beginners how to use the smoker. I found this one very helpful https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQseO8Y2sMA

Well I thought I was getting everything I wanted in a smoker to replace my old one, but had problems from the start. I would not recommend getting this smoker unless you want to modify it before you ever use it. I'll list some of my problems, in no particular order. 1. Was supposed to have 2 cooking grates & 1 charcoal grate, came with 3 cooking grates and no charcoal grate. I was going to add a 3rd cooking grate for when I do jerky, so having 3 grates was fine, I just had to modify the charcoal pan studs to hold a little smaller charcoal grate, I used one from a Weber 14" grill. 2. I could find no place online to order parts for the smoker, like a charcoal grate to replace the one I didn't get. The manual has part numbers for everything, but you can't find them anywhere. 3. The water pan sits way too low, right on top of coals, so your water boils away really quick. My old smoker was taller below the door, which raised the water pan above the coals. I drilled new holes and moved it up 4 inches, works good now. 4. The first test burn I could not get the temperature below 350 degrees even with all the dampers closed. It leaked air around the lid and door, and with the Large 2 1/2" Hole in the bottom below the charcoal pan the fire just took off. To fix this I got some Heat Seal Tape and went around the lid and door to prevent air flow. For the hole in the bottom I used metal tape in several layers top and bottom to seal it, and then poked a small 1/4" hole in it. Now when I close all the dampers it will put out the fire as it stops the air flow. 5. The temperature gauge that came with it was Junk. It would go up/down in jumps, and was not accurate compared to the temperature probe from my digital gauge. I replaced it and also added a second gauge in the middle of the smoker. After my modifications it works well, but I was not expecting to have to do any modifications (except add a 3rd cooking grate and temperature gauge in the middle), and there are lots of people out there who would not be able to do what I did to fix it. I would not recommend this smoker. Note: The picture are of a Duck I smoked.

I really enjoy the versatility of this charcoal smoker which doubles as a grill. The compact smoker came in several pieces and took me about an hour to assemble. The included instructions were nicely detailed and the supplied bolts and wingnuts were packaged to help facilitate assembly. The materials used are solid and robust. The large side door makes for easy access to the included water bowl where you can check on the flavored chips. The cam buckles allow you to easily remove the center section if not using as a smoker. The built-in thermometer in the domed lid allows you to easily check on the temperature for optimal smoking/cooking temps. The two adjustable vents along the bottom and the vent on the domed lid allow you to get the perfect temperature. We recently took the smoker on a camping trip and used it as a grill, which did a terrific job cooking our meats and was relatively easy to transport in the back of my truck. With salmon season just getting underway I look forward to smoking some nice fillets in the near future. Overall, this is a terrific addition to anyone needing both a charcoal smoker and a grill in one compact package.

Good smoker for price
It's a good and moderately priced product for charcoal smoking, my issue was that the paint began to peel off by the third time we used it. That obviously didn't affect our smoking, but it just made us agree that we get what we pay for.
by AngelaB
Not my best buy.
It works okay, but the paint melted on its first use and stuck the parts together, making the air circulation adjustments quite difficult.

Nice little smoker...after some necessary modifications. The lower cooking rack which also supports the water pan is too low, only about an inch over the coals. This causes unwanted and excessive condensation due to boiling, Not good for smoking! The temp gauge is fairly accurate, if you can read it. The print is really small. That nice green finish is a problem. It's not paint, it is powder coat, but it's not a high temp powder coat. This becomes a problem if the smoker gets close to or above 300 degrees. And this little guy can easily get away from you if your not careful. If the temp gets too high all three section become "glued" together. I have some simple solutions which I have found to remedy these problems. First relocate the lower cooking rack and water pan 3" higher. Second, replace the temp gauge with one that's able to be calibrated and that you can read. Third, using an angle grinder with a grinding stone to remove all powder coat from any area of the three section that come in contact with each other. And finally, in the bottom of the lower section there is a 2" hole, use a piece of sheet metal and cap it off. This little hole is a major contributor to the temp getting away from you. You can control air flow through the two side vents and the top vent but that pesky little hole constantly lets in enough air to mess with your temp control. This may sound like a lot of work, but it only takes about an hour, and if you do it before assembly, it's that much easier. After all this is done I've found this little guy to be a nice smoker to use and control. One more bit of advice, I STRONGLY recommend you use the minion method of lighting the charcoal with this smoker, it makes managing temp and longevity of the smoke much better. Happy smoking!!!

I had many smokers, this is the cheapest one but the best (for my needs). It’s simple but elegant. My first tryout were two ducks. Came out exceeding all my expectations. I wanted to buy more for my family member, unfortunately it was “out of stock”.

Nice little smoker
This is a great alternative to larger models especially if you live in a condo or apartment. It's also the perfect size to take camping or a day trip to the lake. It works good enough, makes adequate heat and smoke. Only thing I would change, and I intend to, is the location of the bottom grate and water pan brackets. Their located way to low putting the water pan almost directly on top of the coals. This also makes it impossible to add chips through the door. Raise these brackets about 3" and things will work much better. Overall, it's a really nice smoker for the money.
