What is recommended for cleaning? How often is it necessary?

Asked by jkmc June 17, 2014

Answer

The glass balusters are true 1/4 inch tempered glass. So cleaning should be very similar to your home's windows. We recommend hose water and a quick pass with a squeegee. If necessary add a minimal amount of dish detergent in a bucket with water and a soft bristle brush. Rinse thoroughly. For my home, Rain-X glass treatment three times a year and the hose monthly (or less) works perfectly and eliminates the need to squeegee. I've also tested this recommended homemade solution, which is over-kill, but does produce squeaky clean glass: 2 cups water 1/4 cup white vinegar 1/2 teaspoon dish detergent Thank you for the great question, Dan H. Can this be used as a railing at the top of interior stairs?

Asked by Shelby December 20, 2016
1
Answer

Hi Shelby. Absolutely, the EZ Glass Baluster Railing Kits are quite commonly installed as bannister guardrails and for other interior applications. You may find the 36" installed height railing (EZG610) suitable as well. It just depends on whether you are running the glass to the floor or installing the bottom rail 3.5" up from the floor. For more specific project discussions, call or email 573.365.7085, support@ezhandrail.com Thank you for your consideration, Dan H. (EZ Handrail Dev. Team)

Answer

Hi. Yes, this frame will support either the 8" glass balusters or a full solid glass panel. Email support@ezhandrail.com with your project dimensions to order glass panels. Additionally, when installing a full glass panel, you will want to order the continuous rubber spline versus the 8" rubber pieces that accompany this kit. Simply email support@ezhandrail.com with your project dimensions to start the ordering process. It will be finalized at your local Home Depot Pro Desk. Check with your local building department regarding the handrail code. My answer is you will need a secondary handrail. Thank you for your consideration, Dan H. (EZ Handrail Dev. Team)

stair installation

Asked by Karen November 6, 2014

Answer

Yes, it is quite common, however the stair balusters (parallelograms) must be purchased through your local Home Depot Pro Desk. Feel free to contact me at 800.248.1520 to coordinate the order. We will have to determine the slope of your stair run to cut the glass balusters properly. Thank you for your consideration, Dan H. (EZ Handrail Dev Team)

Answer

Hi mg. Unfortunately, attachments do not come through. However, from your description, I believe it will work. The 3" wide top rail bracket is the widest part of the assembled railing and easily attaches to 2x4 wood framing. Thank you for your question. Dan H. (EZ Handrail Dev Team)

Can I shorten the section ??

Asked by BLTOne July 10, 2014
1
Answer

Yes, you can easily shorten the EZ Glass Baluster Railing sections by cutting the top and bottom rails to your desired lengths. Then cut the rubber silicone spacers that insert between the glass to give you uniform code compliant spacing. The instructions provide a sizing chart for cutting down the rubber spacers so there are no advanced spacing calculations required. Using your example of 115" and assuming you want a symmetric install: 1. Install the EZ Post on center at (115" / 2) = 57.5" creating two openings. 2. Layout your rails, glass balusters and spacers for a general understanding of the assembly. 3. Measure inside distance between posts (or wall and post) and cut your top and bottom rails 1/4" shorter, then install using the provided brackets and screws. In a perfect world: 57.5" - 1.5" (half of the 3" post) - .25 = 55 3/4" would be the size of each railing section. 4. Using the Glass Baluster Layout Chart, look up spacer sizing for 55 3/4" opening - which is 3". Cut your rubber silicone spacers to 3" using any razor blade tool (the soft rubber is easy to cut). 5. Starting at the middle and working out to both ends, install a glass balusters then the top and bottom spacers, then next glass baluster... etc. until complete. I appreciate the question Clifford, as the EZ Glass Baluster Railing is one of our most beautiful and well engineered products to date. Thank you for your consideration, Dan H. (EZ Handrail Dev. Team)

(What's this)
I have been a builder and remodeler for 49 years. Often I have jobs where I need to build and install decks and the railings for them.. For decks, especially those with any kind of view, this EZ HANDRAIL 6 FT. X 42 IN. BRONZE ALUMINUM FRAME GLASS BALUSTER RAILING KIT works very well. While on vacation this year, we rented a cottage on the ocean in Nova Scotia, and this cottage had similar railings to these. It was nice to be sitting on the deck and looking through out at the ocean through the glass panels. These railings are of high quality, are very durable, and serve very well, especially in an environment like that at the ocean.

(What's this)
I love the new addition to my deck. I wanted it to provide more privatcy and to prevent us accidentally stepping off a drop off. I was disappointed the glass was clear. The picture looks like it is frosted. A $4 can of spray frost (from Home Depot) solved that problem. The quality is excellent. It went through a hail storm last night and came out perfect. The pictures are before and after the frost.

(What's this)
This railing kit seems easy enough and is exactly what i was looking for to create some safety for the stairs by our tall swim spa. I wanted something that we could still see through and wouldn't obstruct the view of our fire pit conversation piece. However, while this is great for a deck, we have STAIRS and this kit does not include a stair kit. It likely makes sense as it is glass and all, but i was really hoping to have matching pieces but unfortunately everything i found online shows other types of stair railings paired with the glass railing. Not my style to mix and match. Overall awesome product though.

There were some small scratches on the aluminum frame. The directions were not real clear in my opinion. Also, we did have an unusual use, so we had to work around the directions, rather than follow. But now that’s it’s up, looks really nice.

We had to modify these a bit and there was an ordering problem but, once those issues were resolved with the vendor, and it took awhile, everything eventually worked out. The glass balusters are sturdy and creates a solid, safe railing.

Beware when ordering glass for stairs

We had to Special Order the glass for the stairs to our deck as they were not offered on HomeDepot.com. What a mess. Tell them the angle of your stairs (normally 35 degrees) and let them figure out the angle that the glass needs to be cut. They cut ours at a 55 degree angle - which is completely wrong. That being said, the glass ballasters (minus the stairs) look awesome and seem very well made. Everyone says how classy they look. I like being able to block most of the wind on the deck without obstructing the view.
