Q:How many floats do you recommend for a 4'x8' swimming raft? Are 8" floats adequate flotation if 3 people are resting on it, say 250 pounds total?

Answer This Question

A:  Need to figure out how much the wood is going to weigh. But I'm only guessing , I would think you need at least 4 floats up to 6 floats.

A:  I used 4 on my floating jet ski dock which is 8’ x 10’. 1 at each corner should work great for you application.

A:  There are too many variables to say, what type of dock, how high out of the water overall size etc. they are very buoyant and seem to hold up well.

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello Tammy, At Multinautic we are specialized in dock hardware. Some floating dock plans can be found on our website. But for a house on a floating dock, I would first recommend to choose a higher dock float model such as 14138 or 14122 to reach the highest buoyancy capacity that you can get. You will find some tips in the pdf "Installation guide" on this page. You can also find a Multinautic authorized dock builder on our website that might be able to help you with your project.

A:  I would buy as many that would fit under the dock to make it as stable and useable as you can afford. This is a quality product!

A:  My floating dock is only 4'x 16' but it does exactly like I wanted. So I would say either 2 of the 2'x 4' or anything of the equivalent

Good floats, good delivery, well done securing the screw-in plugs preventing loss. Price was significantly higher than last time. I expected higher but this was more than expected.

Good value. I ordered two different types of floats for my dock project. These are sturdy, but the attachment method is a bit cumbersome (the other type had molded in mounting holes - much simpler). You need to find some large galvanized fender washers to retain the bolts in the provided slots and HD doesn't seem to sell them. There is a small bung (plug) that is threaded in after assembly - it is left out so that air pressure variation doesn't distort the float in shipping. They attach two but very insecurely in a tiny plastic bag on the side - I can imagine these get lost all the time. The other type of float I bought has a thumb screw plug that comes in place and you just tighten it once installed. Seems the safer option

The bolt slots are not clear of plastic and will require cutting or drilling

When the shipment arrived, I received 5 instead of 6 floats. I contacted Home Depot and was assured another float would be shipped. Never received the last float. Out $131.00.
