Q:Is there a pressure relief valve? What psi is it rated up to?
by|Feb 6, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  A pressure relief valve (PRV), also known as a T&P valve, plays a critical role in maintaining the safety and functionality of water heaters. Its primary function is to release excess pressure within the system, preventing potential damage or hazards. If the pressure inside the water heater tank exceeds safe levels, there is a risk of explosion. This can occur due to factors such as overheating, malfunctioning temperature controls, or a buildup of sediment inside the tank. The pressure relief valve acts as a safety measure by releasing excess pressure before it reaches dangerous levels, thus preventing potential explosions and catastrophic damage. Also, we always recommend using municipal water pressure which has 45 PSI. As long as the heater is connected to a municipal system, that should be all good.

Q:How can we use natural propane gas on this unit?
      by|Dec 14, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Hello there! We do apologize, but it is not possible to use a natural gas configuration for the i12-LP model, as each variant is designed for a specific gas type it can accommodate. The i12-LP is specifically tailored for liquid propane, as indicated by the "LP" designation, whereas the i12-NG is intended for use with natural gas, denoted by "NG". If your gas source is natural gas, it is imperative to opt for the i12-NG model to ensure compatibility and optimal performance. Q:is the vent outlet 2 1/2 or 3 on the unit?
        by|Nov 26, 2023
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Hello there! The vent outlet size on the Eccotemp i12 is 2 1/2". Upon purchasing an i12 unit, it is equipped with a 2 1/2" basic horizontal venting kit designed for use as a fundamental venting system. This kit comprises a 90-degree elbow, wall thimble, and a termination hood. In instances where advanced venting configurations are required, such as vertical venting or a combination of both horizontal and vertical venting, a 3" venting system is recommended for use with the i12. To facilitate this transition, a Paloma 2 1/2" to 3" converter is necessary. Furthermore, it is imperative to employ a 3" single-walled stainless steel venting system from the unit's point of origin to its termination point. This ensures optimal functionality and safety in the venting process.Should you require further guidance in selecting the appropriate water heater, our knowledgeable team is readily available to assist. Excellent for the money
This is a very good product for the money. Have had it over a year in and works like a champ. Tankless units take some getting used to and have to learn their operation. In the winter time it takes a bit longer to get hot water at the taps and supply decreases. It takes the same for old style hot water heater so nothing new. An on demand switch activated water recirculation system at farthest run of house can solve this problem or you put water down the drain until hot arrives. Again this happened with tanked as well as this Eccotemp i12 propane model tankless unit. Second have hot and cold water separate taps on all facets. This helps because the i12 propane model when adjusted to 124 degrees gives perfect steamy shower with just a touch cold added at shower facet. Again dual adjustments at facets is necessary for best performance. If you open cold to much the unit can drop hot water. Had to do the same with old tanked unit - hard to adjust for best temps-already had dual adjustments for facets. Now this unit although rated higher has a problem in winter time of delivering enough water to run shower and washing machine. The ground water temps are colder in winter and the gpm drops as a result of ground water temps vs delivered temp for the gpm ratio. There are charts at eccotemp website and it should be considered for selecting your tankless gpm size no matter the brand. This unit is excellent for a small home and small 2 person family in TN-GA area climate. I am pleased with it and the installation was simple with pex. Same using the included exhaust pipe setup. For under $300 this is a bargain. I may buy another one to sit on shelf in case this one ever breaks - easy swap out again a bargain. Electric bill has dropped and is noticeable for a savings. The electric water heater being gone opened up storage space too. Another closet.

I installed this for a 1 bedroom apartment with 1 shower 1 kitchen (no dishwasher) and washer dryer hookups. I live in New England so the incoming water temperature gets cold in the winter. While this does work for this application there are a couple of things to know. On the inled side there is a water throttling valve. It has a littler lever just above the inlet water connection at the unit. With the shower running full blast the unit said it was flowing 2.7 GPM. I had to restrict the flow using the valve until the unit read 1.7 GPM to get an adequate temperature at the shower. There is still plenty of flow coming out of the shower but this tweak was not mentioned in the literature. It also DOES NOT do a 65 degree F rise at 2.3 GPM. With the incoming water at 50 degrees F, I am getting an outlet temp reading at the unit of 111 degrees F at 2 GPM. That is a 61 degree rise at 2 GPM. So this is quite a bit off of the advertised values. I understand there are tolerances and the values could vary a bit but this is significant. While it works for my case, others should use the numbers I am getting instead of advertised performance values.

Three pinhole leaks in the heat exchanger in less than two years. The company "email Helpdesk" blamed ME every time. There is a written warranty, but they will not honor it.

Good kit, has most of what’s needed for installation. Installed it in an afternoon, and fired it up; went well. Only issue so far is a whistling noise occasionally, seems to be tied to heavy draw, when the combustion fan ramps up speed. Wish the kit came with the relief valve, would have saved me some time rounding one up.

Works great, easy install, low profile. For the price I don't think there's a better on demand hotter heater out there.
