A: I can't completely answer your question. It's not a machinist square. That said, I'm a woodworker. I fi d this little combination square to be quite adequate for what I do, and it's small size allows me to carry it in my apron or tool pouch. It's square enough.

A: Unfortunately I don't know how Home Depot handles it's warranty. But I do know the product, True Blue 6" combo square is garbage. Yes the rule is steel, but the locking tab the slides along the rule groove, is made from a material that is soft and wears very easily, rendering the locking device to fail.
I guess this is why you are inquiring about the warranty terms. Good luck.

A: Empire sent me back to Home Depot, they stated that the limited warranty is serviced through point of purchase. So if Home Depot doesn't replace, looks like there effectively isn't a warranty. And Good luck with Empire, they have some of the worst customer service in the industry.

Quality and accurate product
Love this little guy, compact, accurate and quality build. I used this daily and it provides fairly accurate 90 degrees, straight edges and very accurate 45 degrees. There is no give when adjusting the ruler once tightened down. There is only a bit of wobble when you extend the ruler way past the point of where it is supposed to go. You can fully remove the ruler to get a smaller 6" ruler and slides back it perfectly at 90 degrees.
It also comes with a level and pin punch but I have not used any of those functions but it's nice to have.

This is one of those rare tools that turned out to be even more useful than I expected.
It's great, better than a larger square almost all the time for small projects. Not the one you'd use to build a house, of course, but for furniture and little things, it's nice to not be bumping into stuff. The spirit level component removes that extra step of making sure that your square corner is level or at the appropriate angle.
What makes this tool even more than that, for me, is the fact that you can remove the 6in ruler from the level part. It's a heavy-duty piece of stainless steel and I've found I much prefer using it for drafting/drawing/sketching than any other 6in ruler I've ever used, including the standard Helix floppy metal ones. The weight helps it stay put on the paper and I don't worry about it bending when I don't want it to. The markings are really precise as well, and having it marked in 8ths & 16ths on one side and 16ths and 32nds on the other makes it much easier to use.
For 8$ it's not even a tool you have to make an excuse for buying and you'll get a lot of utility out of it. Highly recommend!
Only downside is I don't think it's made in the USA :( Not a dealbreaker though.

This product lasted approx. 1 year. The threaded steel rule locking "L" shaped top catch wore down. When the user tightens the locking screw, the "L" shaped lip bends and slides out of the groove on the steel rule. Now the combo square does not lock, no matter how much one tightens the locking thumb nut. All I have now is a 6" steel rule. Don't waste your money.

Great little square. Absolutely accurate and it's the perfect size for a lot of things. I use it mainly to true my jointer and my bandsaw. I also bought an Empire framing square that I use mostly for truing my table saw. I would recommend Empire products to any serious woodworker.

Great square for the small applications where you don't want to fumble around with the 12 & 15 inch versions (squaring away your miter and table saws, perfect tool for this). Easy to use, read and adjust. Everyone who works with wood should have a 6" combo square in their box. Used it extensively on the project below.
