Answer

Hello, gardener; I was unable to determine where this product was made, but I have found a link to Home Depot's annual Responsible Sourcing Report if you would like to have a better understanding of where and how Home Depot acquires merchandise. Some very interesting reading. Good luck with your project! https://corporate.homedepot.com/sites/default/files/THD_RS_Report.pdf

How exactly do I open this? I am looking at a maze of rolled wire and not finding any edge to use...

Hi Phillip, to open the rolled wire, please snip the wire that is wrapped from the outside to the middle of the roll. That wire holds the roll together. Once it is unrolled, you will be able to set up the poultry netting.

Can I use this to make an outdoor cat tunnel? Will it hold it's shape?

Yes, it will hold its shape as it is very malleable. Just be very careful with how you handle the edges as they are very sharp. Once they are bent over, they should be fine.

If I use this product as part of a pizza oven mold and when temps get to 600-900 will any chemicals leach out?

Galvinized steel is steel with a coating of Zinc. For most foods, contact with galvanized steel is perfectly safe....The acid in some foods reacts with the zinc coating to form salts that are readily absorbed by the body and in excess could cause a very mild sickness. This only occurs when the galvanized steel is in direct contact with the food. For your application, it shouldn't be an issue, since it will be covered in a clay/mortar.

Photos don;t seem to match. Opening size?

Asked by wmc August 26, 2016

Answer

The photo with the flowers is not an accurate representation and will be removed from the sight. The opening size gradually increases towards the top of the fence.

What do I use to tack this down? I also need to connect to an existing fence so what will i need for that ?

I have used part of this roll of EVERBILT galvanized poultry netting, also commonly known as "chicken wire" to cage landscape plants to protect them against winter attacks by deer and rabbits. These critters have done major damage to some of my earlier plantings, so I decided to take action to prevent repeat damage to my dwarf burning bush and mugo pine shrubs that rabbits apparently consider delicacies, that based on my experience last winter. I also used part of the roll to deter squirrels from digging up and eating newly planted tulip bulbs for a second time this fall, it working effectively. To do that, I pinned the product to the ground using landscape staples and covered it with bark mulch so that it does not show. The wire gage at 20 for this galvanized product makes it a bit thin, but relatively easy to cut and bend into the required shapes for use. That 20 gage wire is now the "standard" in the industry. I recall having used poultry netting for such purposes decades ago, it being of heavier wire back then. Regardless, this product does the job well and is fairly priced.

We have a lot of deer where I live, and they will come through and eat all of my plantings! They even ate some of my plastic flowers! I couldn't think of a better way to deter them but to wrap some chicken wire around my bushes.. so far, it has worked! I left a tall chimney of wire around my butterfly bush, and I can't see how they could get past that. This was my first experiment with chicken wire, and I have many crafty ideas to use some too. This is the perfect weight of wire for saving some of my plantings! I don't have chickens, and I can't imagine what they would do with it.
