Q:I have a super heavy 6 ft shadow box gate. I really don?t know the weight on it. I?m on the second set of ?heavy duty? hinges, that were smaller, and it seems to be separating from the post again. I have 3 hinges. I?m wondering if these will hold?

Answer This Question

A:  The Everbilt 12 in. Black Super Heavy Duty Tee Hinge has a max weight load capacity of 200 lbs per pair. The hinges will function properly as long as the weight limit is not exceeded.

In the past 4 months I have purchased 6 of these for various projects. Strong, beautiful, very well built.

These hinges were used to hang two sets of double shed doors for a 10' x 18' shed. I used T-111 on one side and 7/16" OSB on the other with 2"x4" framing for the doors. The doors were 36" wide by 78" tall. Pretty darn heavy. I used 3 hinges per door. The powder coating was liberally applied and the screws were somewhat long enough. I did replace the frame side screws with longer TimberLok hex head construction screws just to be on the safe side because of the weight. My only gripe is that the screws were phillips head instead of a non-slip type head.

Got 9 of these on my shed, serious heavy duty hinges that are built very well out of thick gauge steel. Only negative that I had were the chinsy screws that came with these. I through those out an replaced the screws with some OLT hex head black wood ties; 2" for the frame, 1 3/4 for the door.

I refurbished my small wooden fence having to replace everything but the four by fours in the ground and some of the hardware. I wanted heavy duty hinges for the new gate I made and decided to get these as part of the hinge would be mounted to a four by four and the horizontal strap portion would be mounted to two by fours. I decided not to use the fasteners that came with the hinges because after going through the wood slats I didn't think they would go far enough into the four by four or the two by four to give the strength that I wanted, so for the vertical part of the hinge I used GRK structural screws that were 5/16 x 3 1/2 inches. This meant that I had to drill out the three holes on the vertical part of the hinges to 5/16 inch. For the horizontal part of the hinge I used 1/4 inch x 3 inch bolts that would go through the slats and two by fours. Once I got everything mounted I was very pleased with how well these hinges worked. I am not sure but I believe there is plastic bushing in each hinge because they operate so smoothly. I am really satisfied with these hinges and would definitely recommend them.

This is super stout and thick. Each is rated to hold 120 lbs! I just built a gate and was concerned about the weight because the frame was heavy. This has no problems holding it!

Extremely strong and smooth under load I was really impressed with these hinges after using them on some oversized dog gates. I went with these due to the weight rating. One of the gates was about 70 lbs and needed to be able to hold a Newfoundland if he decided to jump. The hinges can be tough to rotate prior to install but once they have weight on them they rotate smoothly, are very stable, and look great. I will be using these on some more large gates and have been quite impressed so far. I predrilled the holes with a 5/32" bit which worked fine and didn't split the wood.

These hinges are very sturdy. I bought them to replace gate hinges that were allowing my gate to sag. These did the trick. I would definitely purchase them again!

These are what I was looking for 2 years ago at Home Depot. My windy location blew the gates off their hinges. These are big enough to handle the wind. They also have a cool factor. My blacksmith son would have charged me 10 times what these cost. And his backlog would have made them a fall install instead of a May install.
