Q:What is that notch/bulge in the middle for?

A:  They are security tabs that lock the two leaves of the hinges together when the door is closed. The tab on the right side locks with the hole on the left side, locking the hinges in place for the Everbilt 4 in. Square x 5/8 in. Radius Matte Black Squeak-Free Door Hinge.

        Q:What makes these squeak-free? Is it just because they are already greased? I'm looking for squeak-proof which are hinges with plastic bushings so no metal to metal contact. Can't find in 4".

          NICE FINISH - SCREWS WERE SHORT AS IS NORMAL
          Looks pretty good in terms of appearance and quality. Wished it had longer #9 hinge screws. (Had to buy from local hardware store - Depot didn't stock them.). Need special tool to remove hinge pin -.got that from the Depot.
