Can this be mounted on a tree
    ByJul 8, 2026
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

Yes, the Everbilt 40 ft. Retractable Clothesline can be mounted on a tree. The mounting instructions state to "place mounting plate against surface to be used" and mention that if mounting on a "surface other than wood, use appropriate hardware." This implies that wood surfaces are suitable for mounting. You would need to ensure the tree provides a stable and secure surface for both the main unit's mounting plate and the eye hook on the opposite side. What do you attach the end that pulls out to?
            ByAug 14, 2025
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer,We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is, The end of the retractable clothesline is designed to be attached to an eye hook or a similar secure point on an opposite surface. Here are the steps for attachment: 1. **Install the Eye Hook:** Screw the included eye hook into the surface of the opposite wall or post. This point should be no more than 39-1/2 inches away from the main unit. 2. **Extend the Line:** Pull the clothesline out to the desired length. 3. **Secure the Line:** Wrap approximately 6 inches of the extended line around the eye hook. 4. **Lock the Line:** The unit also features a plastic cleat, located just under where the line comes out. You can loop the line around this cleat and pull it tight to lock it in place and prevent sagging.

Can you cut off old line....and pull out more new line
              ByApr 10, 2024
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Yes, you can cut off the old line and pull out more new line from the retractable clothesline. Here are the steps you can follow: 1. **Cut the Old Line:** - Use a pair of scissors or a utility knife to carefully cut the old line at the point where it is damaged or worn out. 2. **Pull Out New Line:** - Gently pull out the new line from the retractable reel. The clothesline is designed to extend up to 40 feet, so you can pull out the desired length. 3. **Secure the New Line:** - Once you have pulled out the necessary length, secure the new line to the eye hook or any other attachment point you are using. Make sure the line is tight and secure. 4. **Retract the Line:** - If needed, you can retract the line back into the reel by releasing the quick lock mechanism. This will help keep the line taut and prevent it from sagging. The retractable clothesline is designed for easy maintenance and can be used both indoors and outdoors. It includes hardware such as screws and an eye hook for easy installation. [This answer was generated by AI and verified by product experts.]

How does the line stay tight so it doesn?t sag on a longer span? How much sag could be expected with a 30lb load?

Replaced old unit with new and found the cord to be thiner that does NOT hold firm when wraped around the plastic bollard. Therefore it sags when attaching items to the line.

This is absolute trash. Do not purchase this item. Zero stars. I unpackaged the reel and pulled the loop for the cord to come out and it came off in my fingers—see the picture—with a simple pull the loop came off cleanly! My guess is that this thing is made of a very poor quality resin. Ha! This format will not allow my photo! AND get this! second star keeps popping onto my review. Wow!

                        Great backup clothesline
I bought this to string up in my screen porch for those times when I need a little extra space on the line. Better than tossing things on chairs, and way better than those shower lines that are little more than string. The bright pink packaging made this hard to find in the store, and I was expecting a metal case on the unit but overall I am happy and it was easy to put up. I do plan to get an extra hook or two for this so I have options as to where I extend it so the line isn't in my way.

Works well for what I wanted to do with it. I have a regular clothesline with a rope and large pullies but the line is just a bit too short for a weeks worth of clothing so I was improvising for a few items. This allows me to hang the extras inside my screen porch when I need a little extra line space. I like the plastic cord and hope it holds up well. I was a bit puzzled by the large hot pink decal on the casing, but that was easily removed.
