Answer This Question

A:  I think they cost more because they are stronger and nuts and gaskets are three or four times thicker

by|Nov 12, 2019

A:  Apparently because prices on all these parts are assigned at random, or perhaps based on what inventory they have "somewhere" in the great computer in the sky. You can't make sense of it, and if you can find what you need for a few bucks and go home to do the job, you're ahead for the day.

Q:what is the size of the tank to bolt nut in inches? Do not see it in the specifications!

    Answer This Question

A:  I used 1/2 inch wrench on nut.

    by|Sep 17, 2019

A:  Not sure but it's the standard size and matched the size of the nuts that came with my toilet.

Q:can I buy a special wrench to fit the bolt (5/16 inch) so that it makes it easy to install the bolt?

      Answer This Question

A:  No special tool is required. It simply installs with a regular screwdriver. A flat head (slot head) will do thre job.

      by|Nov 9, 2019

A:  It depends on the design of your toilet. If you have room for a wrench, then you can use that. Otherwise, some kind of extension and bit on a ratchet socket tool will help. DON'T OVER-TIGHTEN or you can break the tank.

Q:How are these bolts and washers installed in order?

A:  +1 unhandyman's answer. From the fluidmaster link he shared, from top to bottom: a bolt b gasket c toilet tank d metal washer e nut f toilet base g gasket h metal i washer nut Gasket forms a tight seal on its top and bottom, but not along shaft of bolt.

        by|Apr 3, 2022

A:  Gasket-washer-bolt in the tank and gasket-washer-hex nut on toilet.

A:  First install a rubber washer on each bolt. Run the bolt through the rank and into the base. Add a metal washer to the bottom, and tighten with a nut. I recommend that you clean any silt inside the toilet around the bolt holes, and apply vasalene to the washer to get a tight seal.

          by|Jul 13, 2019

A:  So I wondered this myself and at fluidmaster, they describe the order of things and WHY you are getting what appears to be extra parts. For most toilets you would put the rubber gasket in the tank and the metal washer on the outside. However, if you have a gap between the tank and the bowl as is the case on some toilets, you repeat the process twice with the extra metal washer immediately under the tank, then a bolt, then another rubber one above the bowl repeated by the metal one under the tank. Some people suggest putting the metal washer also in the tank (above the gasket), the article says this can cause a leak and to only use the rubber gasket in the tank. And others also suggest putting the extra rubber gasket on the bottom to protect the porcelain, then the metal one next to the nut. I supposed the latter is an option if you don't have a gap but isn't actually necessary to prevent a leak. Link might eventually change but was valid at time of posting where this information is found: https://www.fluidmaster.com/toilet-problems/installing-resolving-leaks-tank-bolts/

A:  The rubber washers go against the porcelain on both sides followed by the metal washers.

A:  The rubber gasket goes on the inside of the tank and the metal washer is on the outside of the tank and is secured by the nut. The package contained two sets of rubber gaskets but I only used one washer for each bolt hole on thre inside of the tank. So, now I have a spare set in case of an emergency.

A:  Metal and rubber inside tank. Rubber and metal outside tank with a nut. Rubber and metal with nut to toilet. ( I purchased extra as leak persisted)

Incomplete instructions and teeny photo printed on the plastic bag make this a needlessly frustrating install for anyone who doesn't replace these parts regularly.

Bought this set from a local hd store while fixing s leak, and a week into installation saw it corrode. Definitely do not recommend. I hope home depot will take these off its self. Totally worthless. Zero stars.

3 stars for not being solid brass but no signs of rust after a month. I did not use a screwdriver to hold the head while tightening the nut just using my fingers this eliminate scratching the brass coating.Only time will tell but it was what I needed at the time and did the job upgrading to 4 stars.

Installed these and when I checked the tank a few days later the tops of the bolts were already rusting away. The brass plating is so thin that just tighting them manually with a screwdriver must have worn off the finish. These bolts are not designed to be submerged in water, which is the whole point of tank to bowl bolts. I had to look online to find solid brass bolts to replace these with and they were only a couple more dollars.

                            Not brass!!
Plated steel! These will not be corrosion free! The head of these bolts are submerged under water 24/7. NOT the environment for plated steel. Go to a plumbing supplier and get a kit that's 100% brass, bolts, washers and nuts. It was the weekend, ended up buying ALL 316 stainless hw, plumbing suppliers all closed. I just spent 24 hr trying to separate a tank from a bowl because of a small leak at one of the bolts caused severe corrosion.
