Can you connect two of these via a cable so gate can have two latches at both top and bottom and be opened by pulling the top latch?

We do not have a recommendation for this application as other factors such as installation and gate sag could impact the desired results.

You can use an inexpensive Buckle Carabiner. It can be found almost anywhere for less than a dollar. Here is the link for the ones available at Home Depot: https://www.homedepot.com/s/Buckle%2520Carabiner?searchtype=text&NCNI-5 Good luck, Lomar

How to lock ? Am I missing something? Can someone show how a padlock or any lock is used on this ...

Easy from either side. The latch has 2 holes that match up with a hole in the mounting plate. Simply install the latch normally and add a lock on which ever side you prefer. The 2 holes can be seen as the one closest to where the return spring attaches to the plate and hole just above where the latch catches the capture bolt.

Has anyone installed on an metal or aluminum gate?

I wouldn't install on an aluminum gate. I guess it can be welded to a metal gate. Primarily for wood gates, comes with wood screws.

What are the specs on the bolts that come with this product? I want to buy some extra.

Answer

The bolts for this Post Latch are 5/16”x2” Lag Screws.

I can’t use a master lock on front or back, gate swings out and opens when i lift the elbow. What are we doing wrong?

You're using the wrong hole. Follow the long handle to find the holes for both inside and out.

This was easy to install, it looks nice, and provides a smooth latch to the gate. This is so much easier to use than the latch it replaced! (I used bolts from the old latch because they fit existing holes in all but one spot & the bolts provided were a lot longer.)

The bar on this product is soft and bends easily after just a few closings of the door. I've bent it back to standard position a few times with pliers. Whole bar finally snapped in half on a cold day. So far have not found a replacement bar only, have to buy the whole latch kit.

I was building a new gate from a kit and this latch (or one like it) was mentioned in one of the reviews. I did some research and found this one and a couple of others. (Full disclosure, I purchased this one rather than any of the others only because this one was in stock at my local Home Depot and the reviews were decent.) Since I was building the gate I could tweak the tolerances to fit the latch; I left 3/4” gap between the gate and the jamb to accommodate the latch – too much less than that and the gate would bind on the latch. My gate is wood with a steel frame; I attached the keeper bar to the metal frame using two 5/16” x 2” carriage bolts that fit the square holes in the keeper bar rather than using the lag screws that were included; the latch itself was attached with the provided screws. As far as a review goes here are the bullet points: - This latch does what a latch is supposed to do, it keeps a gate closed. - It self-latches very smoothly. - It was very easy to install in new construction. - It can be opened from the outside using a handle rather than by pulling on a piece of string that has been fished through a hole in the jamb or post. - It can be padlocked on either side in SOME installations – if the latch is attached to “four by” stock (2x4, 4x4, 4x6) or similar the post interferes with the exterior side padlock hole and it cannot be used; only the inside padlock hole can be used. - It can be configured to fit either right or left swinging gates (but the package instructions do not tell you how and it’s not particularly obvious). Alternatively the latch can be mounted upside down. - The package instructions do not list the minimum gap the latch requires. - The tabs on the front of the latch take the guesswork out of how far back to mount the latch. - The keeper bar may be bolted on using 5/16” carriage bolts through its square holes if you prefer to mount it with bolts instead of screws. - The price seems reasonable. I’d definitely buy this again.
