On the latch of the Everbilt Black Post Latch Gate Set is a hole for the owner’s preferred padlock.

Step 1 mentions “hinge straps” and “Hinge barrel side” hanging over gate frame. Step 3 mentions ...

The hinge strap could also be referred to as the hinge leaf. This is the part that attaches to the gate and post. The hinge strip is the hinge strap. We seem to have a spelling error. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. The hinge barrel refers to the housing of the hinge pin. After mounting, this should be located between the post and the gate.

Where can i get replacement bolt or arm. I believe the overall length is 6 1/2 inches with approx 1 1/2 inch between holes.

Answer

Stuart I would suggest you go to the local Home Depot store and look in the hardware isle. I doubt that you will find a black bolt but after almost 50 years in construction and repairing hundreds of gates the best solution is to go to the galvanized bolt section and purchase galvanized bolts in 1'4" or 3/8 inch diameter and re-drill the holes in the wood. Wood with age and the constant closing or slamming of the gates weakens the wood fibers so I would strongly suggest you get a galvanized bolts and replace all the hinge bolts with a galvanized carriage bolt or a hex head bolt. Suggestion drill the holes out to 1/4" or 3/8" for appropriate size and get bolts approximately two and a half inched long. This will accommodate the thickness of the 1/2" picket and the 1 1/2" framing posts. Also make sure you pick up the corresponding galvanized washers and make sure you put one washer against the wood before putting the nut of the back side of the fence. You can use galvanized nuts or buy regular zinc plated nylon lock nuts. Before you go to the store, just make sure you measure the thickness of the gate and framing members and allow for the thickness of the nut and washer.

Nice and easy! This kit comes with everything you need to install this set, minus the tools of course. The only tools you will need is a drill, drill bit (3/16), and a couple of sockets. The steel seems thick enough to handle the gate slamming and high winds for years to come. The paint is powder coat so it should also hold up to the weather quite well. The hinge pins are dropped in on one side so make sure you have the hinges in the right direction so the pins don't work themselves out over time. This probably took 30 minutes to install and looks much better than the old one.

The Everbilt post latch gate kit comes with everything necessary to hang your gate. The kit includes the latch, handle, keeper bar, both decorative hinges, and 19 lag bolts to secure everything to the fence and gate. The working load limit of the hinges are rated at 60 lbs. The latch is reversible latch allows it to be installed on either a left or right swinging gate. The provided instruction were straight forward and easy to follow. Be sure to use a 3/16 in drill bit to drill pilot holes in each location as to not split the fence panels. Then use a 1/2 in socket to install the provided lag bolts. The black finish looks great against the wood panels on the fence and provides a sturdy location to lock your gate.

Don’t let my average rating distract you from getting this , I new it was average going in. Seems to be holding the gate I made just fine , closes good as well . Bit dated look , but not sauté after era . Thin gauge steel . Just your strait up average gate hardware . One thing to be mindful of is the lengths needed to bolt your hinges , I was building from scratch so I could control where 2x4 and such could go . Another thing to be mindful of is the lag bolts it comes with will penetrate through 1.5” stock . I ended up spray painting washers to accommodate. This may not be an issue for those nailing 5/8” planks to there stock, but that is not how I built my gate .
