Q:Are the mounting screws accessible when this is in place? It looks like you could bypass the padlock by taking two screws out of the strike plate (or four out of the latch part). Am I missing something here?

I received the EVERBILT ZINC PLATED SWINGING DOOR LATCH to test and review for Home Depot. Very easy in install with great directions. I used to have the older hook and latch type and this is a great upgrade. Very secure, as the door stays closed. I have added some spring hinges, so the door closes easily and stays closed. i have two dogs that are always ready for a stroll if they get out. This will work equally as well to keep children in. Very easy to open and seems like it will last a long time!

This is a nice handle for a shed door, or a swing gate. The on-line description and specifications are accurate and complete. Note that it is zinc-plated, not galvanized, so although it will handle weather pretty well, it will eventually rust unless it is painted or lightly oiled. The screws are #8 and 1" long. If security is a serious concern, I would replace the screws with through-bolts.

I received the Everbilt Zinc Plated Swinging Door Latch for free to review. This Crown Bolt Zinc Swinging Door Latch is perfect for a backyard swinging door, which is where I plan to install it. It will work for either out swinging or in swinging doors or gates. The double-coated zinc finish provides rust protection for outdoor use should help keep it from rusting for a long time. The kit comes with everything you need for installation.

This latch entry system is good overall and comes with hardware. It allows for access on both sides of the gate. Installation is about a 3 on a scale of 5 being the hardest. The only complaint I have is that the mechanism is clunky. A little grease helps that out though. Being that this is zinc coated it won’t rust right away but it will rust over time so spraying a little lubricant on it once a year will keep it new longer.

This swinging door latch was perfect for an outdoor use. We installed it on my back fence gate. The install took 10 minutes and only used the hardware that was included. The dual door latch was key for this gate because its on rolling hinges. I feel that this latch will weather well. I live in the north and greased the latch to ensure that it will not stick in the cold winter months.

Everbilt, a fine name in fence hardware. This a very good, heavy duty gate latch. It is spring loaded and works very well. It is steel with zinc coating to prevent rust and corrosion. It comes complete with all necessary hardware for installation. Mounting screws are 1" #8 with Phillips head, for no slip installation. Latch works for doors or gates 3/4" to 2 1/4" thick. On 3'4" doors or wood the screws are slightly too long. It can be mounted for left hand or right hand use, and also inward or outward swing.

I installed his Everbilt Zinc Plated Swinging Door Latch on our back yard fence gate. I installed only parts of it for now, so that it can only be opened from inside the yard and not by anybody outside. This way I don't need to put on a padlock and then look for the key when I want to open it. The latch is sturdy and works well. Being zinc plated it should last for many years before it starts to rust. I may spray paint it to give it another layer of rust protection.

Everbilt Zinc Plated Swinging Door Latch. This is a good latch door/gate handle. It is perfect for something like a shed. It will keep most people out if you add a nice padlock. The outside handle has a hole that the padlock shank would go through to lock it. Now, if someone wants to force it open with a pry bar, it won't take much, the metal isn't very thick and the screws that attach it to the door aren't very long, about an inch. The bolt throw is about a half inch long, so you won't have much to keep the door from being forced open, but this would take some force. If you are in an area pron to shed break-ins, add a big hasp or bolt type of extra lock. The handles are nice and big and the mechanism works great.

I installed this on my shed door. My door is too thick for the back latch to connect to the front latch (the D part). My door is 2x4 with 5/8” siding with ¾” trim. It’s just too much for the shaft to reach through. Also, my door is not perfectly in line with the other door next to it due to time and a little warping. That meant the latch was very hard to engage. Practically speaking, this really didn’t work for my application. I did give it a try but ended up switching it out for a simpler hasp type lock. I think this would be a good choice for someone who has a perfectly straight door that is thin enough for the interior D handle to work.

This Everbilt zinc plated swinging door latch is a "monster". It's not your typical gate latch but rather a robust industrial style door or gate latch. I expect this latch would provide a good level of security but would probably be a bit more difficult to open and close. If installed outside I'm not sure how long the zinc plating will hold up before it starts to rust.
