Questions & Answers

Q:Is there a knob or mechanism to put over the loop end? Instead of just leaving the loop hanging out, which looks a bit raw. I'm trying to figure out a way to attach the loop end into a doorknob or such. Ideas welcome.

Answer This Question

A:  no cover on the loop. I ended up using a small eye bolt and put a key chain ring on the end so it would fall through the hole.

A:  We do not currently offer anything to put over the loop end.

A:  I have used mine as a plain loop without trouble, but you could insert a small diameter rubber ball or a small piece of foam pipe insulation (see picture) inside the loop to give it more substance. Alternatively, you could carefully spray the loop with a rubber coating such as the Rustoleum FlexiDip (see picture of can).

A:  There is no cover -- take a look at my picture provided. I suppose you could use some kind of hook to drape the looped end over. Don't know if this helps.

A:  I used one of those plastic nail on cable mounts. You can find them in Electrical at home depot on the same isle with all the light bulbs, switches, and outlets. It works great. Nail it to the post over the cable. Keeps the cable down at 90 degrees but still allows for smooth pull to release latch

    Not worth it.

      Broke quickly
Easy to install, but only lasted 2 weeks before the wire broke

        Worked for a while
I installed this on the main gate we use to our backyard. After about a year of use, I noticed that the latch on the end had bent and was not working any more. Considering it was only a few dollars, I guess this is fair. I bent the latch back and it works well enough until one of the kids yanks on it too hard and bends it again... I think when I get tired of fixing it, I'm going to get a rope unless they have one of these with a more permanent end.

        Works Great
I am so glad I got this. I have had to replace the twine, rope or string that I have used several times -- they kept wearing down on the hole and breaking after a little while. This being wire should last a very long time if not forever. Works like a charm. This wire was very easily threaded through the hole in the gate and attached to the other side. My hubby did it and was thrilled!

        Great Replacement Cable!
This gate latch cable was an exact replacement for one which had been in service for over forty years. As you can see from the picture, It has a clip on the "inside" side of the cable to attach to the gate latch. The package had detailed instructions on how to install this on a new fence as well, so installing this cable should be trouble-free on either a new fence gate or an existing fence gate. It is really easy. I highly recommend this gate latch cable!

i wish the cable with a return spring was available. the return spring pushes the latch lever back in place. a must for when you have dogs and somebody closes the gate but the single cable doesnt always relatch the gate.
