Plants came healthy
Personally, I enjoy buying the plants at the HD nursery, unfortunately there wasn’t any available. Took a chance online and am very pleased w/the delivery and how well the plants look from the package. Both plants had a plastic cover for the base and to help contain the soil. Soil was still moist, and the sky pencils look great.

6 out 8 died over the winter
purchased online. Delivered by UPS on a hot day last July and left on driveway in full sun. Planted that evening. Plants did very well last summer through winter, green leaves. Spring arrived and 6 out of the 8 died, brown leaves falling off. The return policy, fertilizer must be purchased at same time for a warranty. was never suggested at check out. Go local, same pricing in season and better warranty on plants. 3 other Sky Pencil Japanese Holly ( from local nursery ) are doing very well

This Japanese Holly is an attractive evergreen shrubbery that is ideal for bed planting. It is deer resistant and drought resistant, 2 important factors here. It comes securely packaged and shipped in a protective box, with a plastic bag around the pot to contain any spillage. It has small fragrant flowers that attract bees, and grows slowly. It can be pruned aggressively to control size. It looks great!

This Japanese holly “sky pencil” plant arrived in great condition (see picture), and the plant was nicely placed in its container with plenty of soil. Most impressive was the fact it was not a root-bound plant, so you could tell right away that the nursery supplying this plant did a great job in properly growing and packing the plant for transportation (sturdy box and well-marked – see pictures). As you can see from the pictures, the plant was green and healthy with a good root system. I would definitely order plants this way again due to the great condition of this plant. I highly recommend it!

Thanks for asking - well they appear to be slowly turning brown even though I planted them the moment they arrived and have been watering daily. I think the sun is too hot where I planted them for privacy or I planted too late in the season. Its hot out here in Trabuco Canyon!
