About This Product

The Flowerwood Dwarf Alberta Spruce is a conifer with a pyramidal growth habit and dense evergreen needle foliage that is soft to the touch. This is a slow growing conifer that will take 15 plus years to reach its mature height, this slow growth habit makes this plant great for topiaries and container garden specimens that can be decorated during the holidays as a miniature Christmas tree. The Flowerwood Dwarf Alberta Spruce is one of the least desirable snacks around for deer! The Alberta Spruce should be planted in full to partial sun and should be watered 2-3 times per week until established, then watered as needed in dry spells.

Q:It states it?s a slow grower. Can anyone tell me how fast it grows? Average inches per year?
by|Jun 26, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  The growth rate of a dwarf Alberta spruce can vary based on factors like environmental conditions and care. On average, they tend to grow about 3 to 4 inches (7.6 to 10.2 cm) per year when they are young. However, as they mature, their growth rate may slow down even further. These trees are known for their slow growth, which contributes to their compact and manageable size, making them a popular choice for ornamental landscaping.

    Answer This Question

A:  I planted several in the ground and four in pots that are between 13 and 20 inches in diameter. They are are slow growers and should do well in your pots. Good luck! I love them!

A:  A Dwarf Alberta Spruce typically requires a pot or urn that is at least 2-3 times the size of its root ball, allowing ample space for root growth. Choose a container with good drainage to prevent waterlogging. Transplanting is best done in early spring or late summer to early fall in Maryland when the weather is mild and not too hot or cold, providing the tree with the best chance for successful establishment and growth.

Q:Will dwarf Alberta spruce survive in zone8, Dallas, tx?
      by|Dec 10, 2020
      2 Answers
      Answer This Question

A:  Dwarf Alberta spruce (Picea glauca 'Conica') is more suited to cooler climates and is typically recommended for USDA zones 3-8. Dallas, Texas is in USDA zone 8, which has a relatively warm climate. While dwarf Alberta spruce can tolerate some heat, it may struggle with the hot and humid conditions of Dallas during the summer. To help it survive, plant it in a location with afternoon shade, provide consistent moisture, and protect it from intense sun and heat stress.

      by|Nov 7, 2023

A:  So far is surviving. We will have to wait until the summer.

Q:will this tree survive the Florida heat?
          by|Aug 22, 2020
          1 Answer
          Answer This Question

A:  Dwarf Alberta spruce trees are not well-suited for the hot and humid climate of Florida. They prefer cooler and more temperate conditions and can struggle in high temperatures and humidity. Florida's climate can cause stress to these trees, leading to browning or dieback. It's advisable to choose tree species that are more tolerant of the heat and humidity if you're looking to plant in Florida.

            Charlie Brown Christmas tree
Sad little shriveled thing arrived today. He’s still cute but not like the lush and full ones in the pictures. I will still care for him and love him.

This product did not ship at the height specified; it was 3-4 inches shorter and not as mature as the shrub depicted online.
