About This Product

Flowerwood Dwarf Mondo Grass is the miniature version of the other Mondo Grass offered at Homedepot.com. Dwarf Mondo will only get 3 in. - 4 in. tall and wide with slender green leaves which make for a low maintenance unique look in the landscape. Dwarf Mondo is often used as groundcover and as an accent mixed in with rock walkways. It is considered evergreen in warmer climates, but will turn brown in cooler areas then come back out in Spring. In both warm and cooler climates it is recommended to mow this grass down in early Spring to clear out any dead foliage before new leaves begin to develop.

Q:Product arrived w/no planting instructions. How far apart do we plant? How deep? In what type of soil? What fertilizer, if any, is recommended? Plants should come w/directions.

      Answer This Question

A:  For Dwarf Mondo grass plugs, plant them about 4 to 6 inches apart to allow them to spread and create a dense ground cover. Using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer such as 10-10-10 or 14-14-14 can help promote healthy growth. Apply the fertilizer according to the package instructions, typically in the spring and fall. Ensure the soil stays consistently moist until the plugs are well-established.

Buy these in the store for healthier plant
I got these in the mail and they were looking pretty sad. I planted them right away and thought for sure I would lose half of them because they quickly turned brown. But lo and behold, they have some green left and I think they will recover, slowly. These are tough. Had me very worried. That said, next time I will only buy in the store.

Packaging was impeccable, plants were vibrant and well rooted. It took up to a week to get the eighteen planted but they are all thriving!! Would definitely buy from this grower again!!!!!

Smaller than expected. Hope they survive
Smaller than expected and pricey. Planted them all but some aren't doing very well.

            Happy Dwarf Mondo Owner
As to be expected, the carrier delivered the box upside down from what the heavy duty cardboard box said to do (“LIVE PLANTS: KEEP BOX RIGHT SIDE UP”) Fortunately, only some soil was lost out of the pots. Mondo Grass is super hardy and shipping had no ill affect on the plants. The plants are quite large and I was able to divid them quit a bit (at times four or more times per pot). This gave me much more coverage than I originally thought I needed. Out of 108 I bought I had 33 pots left over from my project. A little pricey but the saying “you get what you paid for” holds true to these Dwarf Mondo beauties. The picture is dated two weeks after they were first planted in the hottest part of the year here, August (zone 9b; California). They all survived 111 degree temperatures ( in 100% shade). I would had thought there would of been a lot leaf burn, considering they came from wet humid Alabama to hot dry California, but very little occurred. Definitely keep them watered and out of the Sun if your live in a hot dry climate. Happy planting!

About 10 percent were green. The rest looked dead but were not. So far about 60 percent has turned green I’m not sure if the remaining will survive or not. I’m hoping for the best.
