Q:Can this be installed over concrete and under LVP flooring?
by|Apr 20, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  It can be installed as you mentioned as long as the LVP is rated for use with radiant heat. Most are but, in some cases, it may void the manufacturer warranty. The preferred method would be to put a reflective foil on the concrete then a hardy backer board, then the film. This accomplishes two things it directs the heat upward and it may also prevent nuisance tripping of the thermostat. If there is moisture in the concrete, it is possible that nuisance tripping may occur.

Q:can this be glued to cement floor than a self stick tile applied over it?
        by|Jan 29, 2022
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Mack, there are a number of issues to address. Ideally you would want a moisture vapor barrier placed on the cement, then a sub floor like ABS Board, then the Film. To be effective you need to direct the heat upward and placed directly on a cement floor that would be an issue. Also, if you are below grade and moisture builds up it could create nuisance tripping on the thermostat. So, with all that said you could glue the outer edges of the film and you can place self-stick tile over it if the tile has been approved for radiant floor heat. You'd want to confirm this with the manufacturer.

Great product so far. The very thin design is really nice to put down under the engineered floor. There is no slope or noticeable transition from where it is to where it is not. The only way to tell is where the warm area stops.I am anxious to see how it does through the rest of the winter.
