Q:I know FloorMuffler is designed to be a floor underlayment, but due to it's acoustical properties, could FloorMuffler be used to help insulated and soundproof walls?

Answer This Question

A:  Refbullwings, did you try this before sheetrocking walls for sound dampener? If so did it work? I'm considering trying to sound deaden between apartment units with this product( floors, walls, and ceilings) in new construction.

by|May 8, 2024

A:  It really depends on what your existing walls are. You’d be much better adding a layer of drywall. This could help like %3 but sound is like water, you need to have not just one wall treated, but the ceiling….the floor….

A:  Hello. FloorMuffler has not been tested for this application. We cannot confirm whether or not the product will perform in the manner in which you described. FloorMuffler must be installed as per the installation instructions in order to maintain the warranty.

        Great product
I've used this as underlayment for several hardwood floors now and it's great, I like the fact that it's both a sound deadener and a vapor barrier all in one. The design of the foam allows you to easily secure one strip to the other, so they don't slide all around while you're installing the floor. I've had no issues with squeaks or hollow sounding floors while using this, I will continue to use it for every project I do. In mind if you use this product, you can no longer glue down your floors

          Great multipurpose underlayment
I use Floor Muffler is an underlayment for laminate flooring. The material is a soft foam with medium density. There's a little cushioning to it, but it's not too soft. It reminds me of the same material that's used on laminate flooring with attached underlayment. This underlayment is also a vapor barrier, so you don't need to install a separate product, which saves time and cost. The edge has an adhesive that attaches to the next layer of underlayment. This not only keeps the underlayment aligned when I'm working on the flooring, but it also is what makes it a vapor barrier. I've used different types of underlayment and this is one of the better products. It is more durable and doesn't tear easily. Also, it does a better job cushioning the floor and keeping things quieter. The roll comes in a 4 foot wide x 75 feet long dimension. I highly recommend Floor Muffler and I give it five stars.

Meticulous to install but seems to work fairly well. Very pricey though.

            good product
FloorMuffler 300 sq. ft. 4 ft. x 75 ft. x 0.08 in. Premium Underlayment for Laminate, Hardwood and Engineered Floors I used this underlayment over 3/4" old oak hard wood floor (on second floor) and under 3/4"x2.5" Solid red oak floor (I did not like different looks). The building is about 80 year old solid red oak, amazingly the old floors have held up over time. As expected they are pretty creaky and get very cold with the weather. I got one advice from an old guy to spread the baby powder over the old floor and work it out in the seams of old floor to get rid of the squeaks. For this new floor I wanted to bring as much insulation and noise reduction as possible. The floor is now installed and it feels warmer and more solid, the noise is also a consistent noise throughout and the squeaks are gone. The install itself was easy. I would purchase again.

            High quality.
i needed to replace some laminate flooring and i wanted new underlayment. the underlayment used by the contractor was paper thin and on top of a cement floor. the floor felt very hard. this floor muffler underlayment is a little padded so i ordered it. it arrived in three days and in new condition. it is much higher quality the contractor used and is is thicker, this is perfect for a concrete floor, i am very happy.

            Super product
This is a super easy to use product that works great. I tried putting a floor down without the underlayment, and it did not go well for me. Definitely worth the extra time and money, which is about the only complaint about this product. At the price, you will want to measure correctly because you will not want to buy another roll for a small section. Follow the directions and you will not be disappointed.

            Multi purpose barrier
This FloorMuffler underlayment provides noise suppression, a slight thermal insulation and a full moisture barrier. The nice feature to insure continuous moisture barrier without overlapping the foam itself is a folded flap of plastic sheeting that you unfold to bridge the gap between strips of foam. There is also an adhesive strip to hold your starter course in place and to connect between foam strips as needed. It tends to curl a bit but the adhesive does a decent job holding the end in place. Be careful walking on it as you lay flooring and you’ll wind up with a nice job! I’d recommend testing a couple small strips to get a feel for the adhesive and positioning.

            Nice light-weight underflooring
This roll looks much heavier than it actually is. When it was delivered, I expected 20 - 30 pounds at least. The roll might weigh one pound. Very light weight, but looks to be made of a material that will withstand pressure and use. I am using it underneath a laminate flooring that has a cork-like backing to it. I need it more for the tiny bit of extra height, and less for the sound deadening, but I believe it will cure both ills. Also, my floor boards tend to be creaky in my house, so after i throw a few screws in the sub-flooring, I'm hoping that this helps. At the very least, it should make for a quieter upstairs room.

A high-end superb product, Floor Muffler's UltraSeal is the original high performance acoustical underlayment leading the industry for over 20 years.
A high-end superb product, Floor Muffler's UltraSeal is the original high performance acoustical underlayment that has led the industry for over 20 years. Yes, you can lay flooring directly on the sub-floor material, but the better your underlayment, the better your satisfaction and performance of the top wood floor product. This closed cell polypropylene foam product comes with an integrated self-sealing tapered lip and tape system to attach pieces together. Do read the manufacturer’s instructions first! They state to install the pad at 90 degrees to your flooring; to install the tape system at the subfloor; and to verify your adhesive will work with this pad - among other things. Residential and commercial use is approved. Laminate, engines and solid hardwood are approved. As an installer for many decades, your underlayment for carpet or wood truly makes a difference in comfort, in sound absorption and in durability. It is worth the price to get a quality product that will achieve these ends. Overall, this is an excellent product that will do what it says for a long time. Do use their chart to determine how much you need for your project.
