Grace Ice & Water Shield is designed to be installed as a primary roofing underlayment directly on the roof deck, beneath your main roof covering such as asphalt shingles, slate, tile, cedar, or metal. The product manual specifies that Grace Ice & Water Shield can be applied over old GCP self-adhered underlayment in retrofit applications, but it explicitly excludes granular underlayments from this process. Therefore, applying a self-adhered 90lb granulated product over Grace Ice & Water Shield is not a recommended application according to the manufacturer's guidelines.
