Hello Wondering, thank you for your question. Although the adapter may still pass power, it will not be grounded which could be a fire hazard especially if any item you plug into it exceeds the electrical specs of the adapter, which are 15A, 125VAC, and 1875W max

Will this work for a standard washing machine 2 prong outlet or should I spend to rewire the outlet?

This receptacle outlet adapter will work well with a two-prong outlet as long as the two prong outlet is installed in a grounded metal receptacle (outlet) box. If the center screw that retains the receptacle cover is not grounded, then this adapter will not provide a ground path to your washing machine. If there are only two wires supplying your receptacle and no ground, a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) could be installed to replace your two-prong receptacle. The GFCI will have three-prong receptacles so you would be able to plug the washing machine right into it safely. The GFCI will protect you from electrocution by shutting off the power to the machine if there is a fault. Installing this adapter when there is no actual ground at the receptacle outlet will not provide a path to protect a person from possible electrocution, especially around water.

This plug is just what I needed. Came as a 2-pack in contractor orange. I live in an older home and have a few older 2-prong outlets. I needed to add a surge protector with extra outlets to an area where I only had the two prong outlet. All surge protectors have 3-prongs so I got these as an adapter to fit my old outlet. Super easy to use, perfectly fits, polarized & grounded for protection. This is an easy fix to the old two prong outlets. Instantly converts a 3-prong plug into a safe 2-prong plug. No need for an expansive electrician to replace anything. This two pack is very affordable and does the trick. ** In order for the ground to be active, an outlet’s wall plate screw has to be removed and secured though the plug’s metal tab. This will complete the grounding and secure the plug onto the outlet preventing it from popping out/unplugging.

These GE polarized, receptacle adapters are made well and make a snug connection in a receptacle ...
These GE polarized, receptacle adapters are made well and make a snug connection in a receptacle outlet and with a cord plugged into them. My home was built with all grounded electrical receptacles. Where I use these polarized grounding adapter plugs is for my holiday lighting displays. All my exterior extension cords are three-prong grounded type. The holiday lights are however only two prong types. When plugging into the end of a two-prong light string, these adapters allow a three-prong extension cord to be attached and at the end of the light sting. More two prong lights can then be plugged in the extension cord. I actually do not recommend using these adapters if the receptacle outlet box is not grounded, because these adapters will defeat the ground path intended to prevent electrocution when no actual ground path is present. Rather than use these receptacle adapters when there is no ground at the receptacle box, it is better to install a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) receptacle and label it: "No Equipment Ground." A grounded receptacle outlet is designed to safely carry hazardous electrical current to reduce the electrocution hazard to people. A GFCI can still detect stray electrical current and shut the flow of electricity off before it becomes hazardous, even when not connected to a ground at the outlet box. A three-prong grounded electrical appliance can then be plugged into the GFCI. While the three prong appliances will not be grounded, the GFCI will cut the power if electrical current does not return through the neutral connection to protect a person from electrocution. A GFCI is a safer 3-prong retrofit for circuits without an actual ground.

I love these plugs. I can't really plug anything in without using one. Our house plugs are just to big for my plug ins.we changed the switches but didn't really help I look over and my plug fell out of wall socket after a bit. I use one of these and I don't need to worry or keep checking on my chargers etc. I shopped around even went to lowes they didn't carry them. I thought that was odd. So finally found them online at Home Depot. Strong well made plug.

It's what I expected and didn't disappoint. I was looking for an adapter for a small appliance 3 prong to a 100-year old house 2 prong outlet. Only can use one appliance at a time bc of limited amps. The one on left is GE adapter, other is one we had for years. Previously bought a gray colored one which the 3 prongs wouldn't go flush into the adapter. Thank you GE for making these and Home Depot for carrying these.
