About This Product

Garden State Bulb Blue Hosta bare roots come from our farms and growers in Holland. Each bare root is hand picked and checked for quality before shipment. The Blue Hosta is a truly captivating shrub that adds a touch of beauty to any garden with its deep blue-green foliage. Not only does it look stunning, but it also attracts butterflies and hummingbirds with its lovely pale purple flowers that bloom in the middle of Summer. This shade perennial thrives in moist, well-drained soil and its unique puckered, deeply ridged leaves make it a standout in shade gardens and mixed container plantings. The best part is that it establishes itself in just 1-year, making it a low-maintenance choice for shady areas, no digging or dividing required.

Q:Are these for real? I've Been told there is no such thing as a blue hosta.

Answer This Question

A:  Yes, The top layer of a blue hosta leaf is covered with a glaucous coating that provides a blue appearance to the leaf. This coating is often written as being a leaf wax or leaf bloom. The more glaucous coating a leaf has the bluer the appearance that will turn more blue year after year.

Q:Will the blue hosta thrive in zone 5, Maine?
    by|Jun 2, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Blue Hostas will thrive in your zone, however, to maintain the blue color there are two requirements: keep them in a shaded spot, and do not water the plant from above (outside of rainwater). The blue is caused by a wax secreted by the leaves, however, tap water will strip the wax away making them more blue green.

          blue hosta bulbs
I had an issue with a missing bulb, but got in touch with Garden State Bulbs customer service and they rectified it by sending a new order without charge. They were quite easy to deal with after I read in the questions and answers on the Home Depot site that I should go this route.
