Q:Light stays on with door closed. Was working fine for 6 months. Any tricks or just replace

Answer This Question

A:  Try working switch with your finger on & off. If it works properly, you made need to shim switch out to make it work with door. If it doesn't work, probably needs replaced. Good luck.

A:  Switch must be bad. I’d get new one.

        Answer This Question

A:  That I do not know. But you could mount it to inside behind door so when door is open it is off and when you close door it will come on. Just a thought if you cant find one that is normally open when button is out

        by|Dec 25, 2022

A:  We do not offer an exact version of this switch that is normally off, but we do have other push button switches that are normally off such as our GSW-22.

Q:Can I use these lights with the barn door?

            Answer This Question

A:  This switch is rated for 16A, 125 VAC / 10A, 277 VAC so as long as your application meets that rating then this switch should work.

            by|Apr 19, 2022

A:  Yes I bought mine a couple of weeks ago. And once it was delivered I installed it within 20 min.

              by|Apr 19, 2022

A:  Do you mean a sliding type of barn door that is in lieu of a door on a hinge? If that is the question, I'm not sure how well it would work. I can't think of how you would install it so the sliding door would depress the button to turn it on and off as you open and close it. maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think it would be a good fit for that application.

Great idea .. but quality is questionable?
Got switch as my friends wanted a closet light installed, which I did yesterday. Installation went good until it was time to power on and test .. only to find that it didn't work. Evaluation of work lead me to find that the switch wasn't working! I took the switch apart and found that the parts inside were not seated very well .. so after manipulating it a bit, put it back together and it worked, but only 30% of the time. I have a video of this but reviews only take jpg's. Back to store

                  Perfect for my application
I purchased this switch to control a new LED strip fixture in a small closet. Unfortunately my closet door jamb wasn’t wide enough to use the included junction box so I drilled a hole to fit the switch. Since the box wasn’t used, I couldn’t run line voltage to the switch so I mounted a RIB relay to the LED strip fixture and controlled the low voltage relay coil with the switch. Works like a charm.

                    Reliability of this switch
The original switch on my pantry door, which is opened and closed often, lasted 20 years. The second replacement switch lasted 4 years. After reading the reviews on this switch I decided to buy two at Home Depot since the local electrical supply house was closed for the holidays. I changed the switch two days before Christmas and Murphy’s Law dictates that the switch will fail at the most in opportune time which is why I purchased a spare. Well true to the law the switch failed on Christmas Eve approximately 36 hrs after it was installed. The second one is working, for how long is anyone’s guess! Luckily the install is very easy since the switch is an exact replacement of the previous switch. Update - the second switch stopped working properly after an hour! What happens is when the door opens the switch does not “click” on. Pressing the switch button quickly a couple times activates the “click” mechanism inside the switch and the light turns on but this defeats the purpose of having the convenience of not having to flip a switch. I even tried lubricating the switches with silicone spray thinking the switch was sticking but that did not solve the issue. I’ll certainly try a different brand from my local electrical supply house on my next purchase. I gave the switch a two star rating because they do work albeit manually but that is not what a door jamb switch is for!

Works great for setting up closet lights to turn on automatically when the door is opened. You can route it into the frame, but it's much easier to just mount it to the lip of the door near the side where the door hinges are, and connect it to the light overhead. Then remove the light switch so you don't accidentally turn the light switch off and prevent the automatic switch from working. Putting these on most of our closet doors.

I have installed 2 of these on closet doors to replace pull-chain light fixtures. In my opinion, these are the perfect light switch for such an application because you never need to think about turning the light on or off. The installation on an existing door frame is not easy, but worth the effort and time. One bit of difficulty is that there is not much room inside the box for wire connectors, so they need to be small. I have lived in 2 houses with these switches (my installation in the current house) over the last 15 years and would not be without them.

It was nice that you had this switch so that we could install a pantry light with door control. This worked perfect for this job. I liked that it is encased in it's own metal box and that it is flexible with mounting options. The box was just big enough to contain the wires.
