Q:Anyone use for penta bolt for water shutoff cover at street?
by|Apr 11, 2023

Answer This Question
A: It will depend on the size of the Penta bolt. For a street shut-off our 1/2" drive "King Gator" grip socket which fits 7/16" to 1-1/4" might fit. The space inside the shut-off box will also have to be taken into account.

Q:Can you use a 3/8 Gator grill to take out a broken 5/8 spark plug out of a 1999 Dodge ram van b 1500

Answer This Question
A: I don't think so. The device is not a deep socket. The pins only retreat about 1/2".
by|Apr 22, 2023
A: I think it is doubtful, but maybe. The Gator Grip socket is 1 inch outside diameter so the first question is will it fit into the space where the spark plug broke? If it will fit is there a non-round top area of the spark plug that it can grab? I think you would be better using a 5/8th deep socket. David

A: No it's not deep enough for spark plugs.

A: It might be, but I wouldn't ...
... only rated to 450 ft.lbs. torque, break-away torque can be higher. I used 1/2" or 3/4" drive impact sockets to change my tires. It might break or wear-out fast if used for changing a car tire.
... outer dimension is too large to fit into openings at lug nuts in wheel covers on some vehicles
by|Feb 20, 2023
A: I have only used it to raise and lower the support jacks on my RV - those are not real tight - as tight as tire lugs have to be I doubt this socket would work well
by|Feb 19, 2023
A: In most cases no. There may be a few old cars with shallow lug nuts that it might fit but for most cars the answer is no.

It broke at the very first use.
As soon as I started using it with my impact gun, the center pice that keeps everything else in place inside the socket came off and it just didn't do any good anymore.

Absolute JUNK. I Tried to remove locking lug nuts on my car and the small pins in the socket broke off and fell out. Thinking maybe I did something wrong by being slightly off center or maybe not perfectly straight, I went back to the store and purchased two more. The second one broke almost immediately, this time the plastic center piece and it's spring fell out. On the third try I moved to one of the other lug nuts, but unfortunately the socket failed again. Save your money and buy a different tool.

Works with most non-round screws, bolts, hex & square nuts, hooks, etc.
As always, my friend borrowed a few of my tools while I needed something to remove the blade bolt off my lawn mower. It was on there really tight, so I did have to use a bit of WD-40 which helped. After that this Universal Socket Wrench worked like a charm. Also used it to remove a small hook from my fence.
This Universal Socket Wrench works with most shapes and sizes except a perfectly round head. So most bolts, wing-nuts, hex nuts, square nuts, eye-screws, cup hooks, lag screws, etc., that are 7mm-19mm (1/4”-3/4”) will fit this. It has a standard 3/8” square hole on the back that will fit a standard ratcheting wrench. It also comes with a drill adapter which has one end fits in back and the other in the drill. It is all chrome with spring loaded pins on the inside. One thing to consider is that this is NOT a pass-through socket and is ONLY 3/8” deep. So always make sure you have the right tool for the job.
Although I got this elsewhere in a pinch and mine is a no-name brand, these are all designed the same way and work on the same principal. This is a really nice universal socket wrench that can truly handle a variety of tasks removing various shapes within the advertised size. A handy little tool.

Worked where everything else failed.
I was trying to remove a stuck, rusted, rounded bolt holding my lawnmower blade in place, and tried EVERYTHING. From PB Blaster to cold welding a socket to the bolt, cheater bars, you name it... nothing worked. Except this gimmicky-looking device... it managed to grab onto it, and I got the bolt off. Well worth $10. The only downside is that one of the little pins on the very top now won't pop back out - but still, even with that, I highly recommend picking one up if you have a difficult nut or bolt!

The rods only depress about 1/4” and there is a limiter in the middle with the same range. That means you can’t grip anything where the bolt is sticking out past the nut.

Can do a strange sized bolt.
I had a strange sized bolt that I couldn't find a wrench for. The Gator Grip socket was able to grip it and I was able to assemble this wheeled dolly that I had ordered. It came with a wrench, but the wrench was thin metal and did not work well. The wrench was stamped with an 11, so I ordered an 11mm wrench and a socket. Neither worked. The 11 was too small and a 10mm was too big. ???
