6 in. Rubber Strap Wrench by General Tools Packaging Contents: Strap wrench Description: The wrench has a strap that is ¾ inch wide and 3/16 inch thick. The strap is long enough that it should handle an object that is up to 22 inches in circumference or 6 inches in diameter. It is for holding, tightening or loosening irregular shapes, and it should not mar the surface of objects. It locks into place by friction on a pivoting cam; pulling harder pulls the cam tighter. The strap wrench is good for use in the workshop, kitchen or anywhere the user needs to grasp an object. Usage: This wrench really has a good grip. It appears to have a strap made of good quality rubber. The only problem I had with it was loosening the strap for different sizes. There is a lever, but one raises it instead of pushing down on it. A little counter-intuitive. I found the handle to be of a good size and curve for grasping it. I like that this wrench can conform to different shapes, and it gives the user plenty of leverage. Overall Thoughts: This can be darn handy to have on hand.

I received the GENERAL TOOLS 6 IN. RUBBER STRAP WRENCH to test and review for Home Depot. I really liked this wrench much better than my older strap wrenches. This one has the ability to place the strap around the work and slide into place. My old ones had the strap had to be threaded through first. I have used it to tighten the vacuum cleaner handle and replace the oil filter on my mower.

This 6" strap wrench is heavy duty and works great for removing cartridge filter housings. The wrench usually supplied with a new filter kit is OK but this one is much easier to use and can be used in close spaces. Most reverse osmosis systems are mounted to a cabinet wall under the kitchen sink and usually there is not much room for a wrench. This wrench fits well and provides excellent torque for removing and replacing the housings.

I have used strap wrenches for about everything. They are great for holding, tightening and loosening just about everything a regular wrench or pipe wrench cannot. Wife has used strap wrench for opening and tighten jar lids, bottles, etc. in the kitchen. This strap wrench comes with a locking mechanism and really handy in keeping it snugly fitted to whatever your wrenching. The strap is approximately 3/4" wide and will not scratch or mar what your working on. The maximum working diameter of the strap is six inches. the General Tool Manufacture provides a limited lifetime warranty on this Strap Wrench and that means it must be quality made.

Here we have one of the best tools one can have for holding power and wrenching. In my Aircraft repair days it was indispensable for large irregular shapes for it's holding strength. And I have one of these types in my kitchen, simply again indispensable for opening container lids. Lets get back to the best feature for the 6 inch at a 3/4 wide strap which I have to say is the locking mechanism, leverage that as you apply pressure gets even tighter as the strap pushes down on, onto the lever - NO SLIPPAGE. And with General Tools you won't go wrong for quality and long life.

Over the years, I’ve had three strap wrenches. The first had a major problem of requiring considerable rotation for the tool to finally tighten up. I guess about 90% of the usage was removing oil filters, and you normally are shy of space to turn the wrench. I threw that one away. My second one was an aluminum housing, and it was much better, but the design required you to pull the strap tight, and hold it while you started the rotation. One it “engaged”, it worked okay. Then recently, the rubber strap developed a tear. Not sure how. This wrench has a nice locking device for the strap inside the handle, so you just pull it snug, and then you are free to just rotate the wrench. Very good.

The 6 inch General Tools Rubber Strap Wrench is a great tool for opening jars. After a couple of whip-lash injuries, I do not have near as much arm and hand strength as in the "good old days," so this strap wrench will be just the ticket. I will also be good for changing the drinking water filter cartridges and the scale inhibitor cartridge on the water heater. Will be great for holding any odd shaped object.

This 6 in. Rubber Strap Wrench from General Tools is good to have. Rubber strap wrenches are extremely handy for many types of work, from opening jars to changing oil filters, to plumbing, etc. The rubber strap is non-marring, so it’s good for use with plastic, glass, metal, or odd-shaped items that could be damaged by other tools. And, of course, it’s about the only thing for use with tight jar lids. This one is good for items up to 6 inches in diameter. I have several other rubber strap wrenches in various sizes, but this one is unique. The rubber strap is a bit thicker than any of the others I have. The strap can be removed from and inserted back into the handle via a full length slot on the back side, making it much easier to get around or remove from pre-assembled items with no exposed end like traps. However, I found that it can unintentionally come out of that slot, which might be problematic in some situations. The strap can be tightened around an object by simply pulling it through the handle like any other. To loosen it, there is a lever type serrated locking mechanism that must be opened away from the handle, but is very effective at keeping the strap tight. With this design, the handle is a bit wider and thicker than others which might make it more difficult to use in some applications (like the oil filter on our car). At our advancing age, with not-so-nimble hands/fingers, we’re discovering that jar lids seem to be getting harder for us to open. We often use a strap wrench for those, usually just one strap wrench, but sometimes we need two – one for the jar and one for the lid. With the larger size handle and thicker strap, this one will be great for glass jars. I always use a strap wrench to remove oil filters on the vehicles, which makes that task much easier. I also use them for light plumbing jobs, like loosening/tightening traps or shower heads/nipples. I may even like this better than the wrench that came with our whole house sediment filter. Overall, I like some aspects of this strap wrench better than others, but there are also some reasons to use other types or styles.

I've found this sort of strap wrench to be very useful over the years, for everything from opening jars in the kitchen to removing odd-sized automotive oil filters. The rubber strap is completely non-marring, and will fit any size or shape you need it to. The strap on this tool is extra-beefy compared to my old one, and it has the addition of a thumb-lock, which lets you get a good tight grip without a lot of fiddling.

General Tools 6 in. Rubber Strap Wrench is one of those tools it is good to have when needed. It is reasonably priced and comes in handy. What it is is a rubber strap around a holder. You wrap it around odd shaped items including jar tops, plastic pipe even automobile oil filters. The strap has to be less than the circumference of the item you are putting it around. Then cinch up the strap which holds in place with friction and lock it. The strap holder provides a large handle to provide leverage that you can turn to loosening or tighten the object. It works remarkably well and fits where other tools just don't fit. This one is nicely done and inexpensive and the strap larger than some others I've seen.
