Yes, I’d say they could. It’s pretty easy to poke through it with a knife. You might consider galvanized flashing; it’s a lot tougher.

We would recommend tacking it to the plywood floor and utilizing a caulk for adhering it to the wall. Check with your local Home Depot store for the recommended adhesive. Good luck with the project.
