A:Â One Gila support says yes, the other says no...Which one is it!
by|Sep 26, 2022
A:Â Thank you for your inquiry. All Gila Window Films are safe for dual pane windows if used correctly. Most, including this Heat Control 3-in-1, can be applied to the inside of dual pane windows. The exception is the Gila Glare Control Smoke and Privacy Control Black as these two are to be applied on the outside of dual pane windows only.

Great product - the window prep is key
Prepping the window properly is a must- especially removing old window adhesive on edges. I had to throw away one window piece I cut out because I cut it a little crooked. I would rate it a 5 if cut lines similar to Xmas wrapping paper were a guide on the protection film. Wetting the film and the window first and then spraying the film again while working quickly with a squeegee to seal is what that worked best for me.

This is a cool down for my bedroom. I get afternoon sun in 90+ heat. It is unbearable. It helps keep the room cool with the blinds closed over the film and if I open up the blinds no one can see in my room on the second floor. It has a light mirror effect.

Nice Product - Overall does the job
This wasn't the easiest DIY project - but I did it alone - would have been a bit easier with a helper. I'm happy with the end result - but I am puzzled as to why the 'backing' on the film is clear - It would be MUCH better if it was a graphed backing to help with cutting the sheets properly. Cutting in a straight, uniform line was the biggest struggle I had... but I was able to get it close enough so that it was workable. The self-adhesive isn't the easiest to work with - and a 2nd person would definitely help to prevent the film folding upon itself when preparing. All of that being said - I was able to put up 5 window panes in a few hours - and I am pleased with the outcome. If you have any cracks or issues on your windows - that will make it more challenging - I have a couple imperfections but I think it will be fine. Also the cutting/trimming - you need to be very careful - I did tear a couple portions (user error - I'm not a pro) - so be careful and do it slowly!

DO NOT BUY
This product is a joke.
First, it is barely any tint. I have very large windows. I did one side, barely noticeable. In fact it was so unnoticeable, a family member came in the room and could not tell the difference.
Second, this tint is THIN. No matter how much you spray the application liquid, it will fold over before you get it on the window.
Third, it doesn’t stay on the window. I followed the instructions and video Precisely. All four corners peeled back no matter how long i stood there holding it down.
I ended up returning the product as defective. I went elsewhere since my Home Depot didn’t have a darker tint. I ended up spending $7 more dollars and bought the black from the same company. MUCH better product. The tint is significantly thicker and extremely easier to work with. My pic is the black.

Easier than I thought it would be!
I am installing the Gila 3 in 1 window tint to all the west-side windows in my Arizona home. There is definitely a learning curve, so I am glad I started in a little-used guest room. Had my husband help with the first panel, but found I could easily do most of the others if a ladder wasn't needed. Watched a ton of tutorials, which helped, and read hundreds of reviews. I have a couple extra pointers that would have helped me if I'd known to focus on them before I started.
1) I agree that using more solution is better for easy maneuverability of the film, but for those saying the film then won't stick, I learned that you REALLY have to go over the ENTIRE window surface multiple times with a squeegee AND hard card to remove as much liquid from between the glass and the tint as possible, soaking up the excess from the edges with a lint-free towel. Again... and again! The good thing is, if you spend the time to really get that liquid out, you can't even tell there's a tint because the result is so smooth. But don't scrimp on this step because if there's any liquid remaining, the film rolls and ain't nobody got time for that.
2) Trimming tip – Really push the film into the crease and corner before even attempting to trim. I mean, keep doing it again and again to create a seam that is easy to follow and trim without ripping the film, then SLOWLY run your razor trimmer along the crease, staying as close to the the frame as possible at all times to avoid a light gap. I ripped my film along the edge on the first attempt because I was in a rush. Start at the top and make sure you keep pushing the water out before moving on because the film WILL roll down and then it's just a mess. So, trim and squeegee and squeegee and squeegee. It's an arm workout for sure!
3) Don't expect zero heat to penetrate your newly tinted windows. It's 106º here today and even the windows with the film feel hot. But they are 9-10º cooler than the un-tinted windows (tested with a laser thermometer). That may not seem like much, but the guest bedroom, which has been fully tinted, is significantly cooler than the family room, which has not. So, they are doing their job.
All in all, I recommend this tint. It really is less daunting than I expected and after the learning curve, looks a lot better, too. Take your time, pay attention to the details (like light gaps and stray fuzz, hairs, etc. that may get trapped between the film and window) and I think you'll find this is a DIY investment well worth the time it takes to complete.

Will not stick to glass
I have thoroughly cleaned my glass and this product simply will not stick to it. At best I have a couple pieces with bubbling at the edges and at worst it just peels off like it didn't even try at all. I've cleaned the glass, I've removed the clear layer, and used the Gila cutter and spray. This seems like a garbage product that I would never consider purchasing again. While writing this review half of a window peeled off.
