Questions & Answers

Can this set be installed on land with slight grade/incline? Or is there a product specifically for these type of areas?

Asked by Chris October 22, 2013

Answers

The short answer is no. The longer answer is that you might get away with VERY slight inclinations, but it will affect the plumb/level of this and might affect the slides as well. You are better off doing what I did and leveling the areas that the main structures will sit on (approx 6x6 and 3x3). The twisty slide sits off the 6x6 structure and that should be level or near the same elevation as the 6x6 pad as well or your slide will have "bumps" where the tubes meet due to it bending.

For this specific model, there is no fabric canopy. It's all wood.

can a set of monkey bars be added to this play set?

Not easily. You'd have to build an entire frame that hangs off one of the sides. There's no "natural" place for monkey bars to go.

Is this a wooden playset or a plastic/trex type of material?

The play set is made of wood and plastic.

The specs say need a 40x40 space. Is that the actual dimensions of the equipment or have they figured in extra space in? Can i get by with less area?

It’s actually 25x20 space needed. That’s only because of the swing set part. Majority of the playground is a 25x13. I add an extra swing set from a previews playground. I didn’t complete the playground because of height requirements. It’s really meant for kids under 4ft. So I built mine base on an adult like myself (6’0) can run in and play with the kids.

Yes, the clatter bridge includes our safety net. Thanks for your question!

what the size of the area i need for the play set i am making a square box area for this

Download the manual from the Gorilla playsets website. In the front of the manual are overhead plan design diagrams giving you detailed measurements for this. Making a square box for this will likely result in LOTS of unused/inefficient space, but if that easiest then go for it.

All of Gorilla Playsets swing sets are not safety rated for commercial use, and installing the swing set in a commercial setting voids the warranty. Thanks for the question!

Answer

Since our swing sets are made from cedar lumber, California requires a warning label for wood dust. If the wood is cut, shaped, or sanded, the state of California has found this to cause cancer in their state. Here is a link for more information - https://www.p65warnings.ca.gov/fact-sheets/wood-dust Thanks for the question!

If you have an inkling of basic construction common sense, then you will be able to construct this playset yourself. The instructions are easy to follow and the materials are well marked and sorted according to which phase of construction is taking place. That being said, this playset is BIG and will take several full days for one person to put together. The materials are high quality and there were no material shortages, even though this ships with what I would approximate as more than 500 pieces, not counting hardware. We had 25+ children at our home this past weekend ranging in ages from 3 to 13 and they were all able to enjoy this playset. I would highly recommend this product!

This playset is great! We had a team of about 5 men (some experienced carpenters) and it went together in about two days of steady work. The hardest part was keeping the children off of it while we put it together! It is high quality and directions are clear (although long and tedious).

As others have mentioned, the Manual was clearly written by several different people who had competing ideas about how to best do it. The result is a confusing hodgepodge of guesswork. For example, the manual goes to great lengths to tell you about how they label the wood. The first number is the length, then the width then a special code indicating what it's for (SBR = Side Board Right). Well, that's great. Unfortunately, only in the inventory list is it referred to this way. The instructions do NOT refer to the wood this way. What's the point of going through that organizational exercise if you aren't going to actually use those labels where they matter? The inventory list is also divided up per "box". Which is fine if you are doing a general inventory, but stinks when you are actually building the thing and have to hunt through all the inventory pages to find which box the wood is in. There were several spots too where the measurements for wood used for a specific instruction were just flat out wrong. There was no wood with that size and even if there was it wouldn't make sense to use it there. Or holes pre-drilled that the manual referred to that weren't pre-drilled. I called customer service to confirm these mistakes, but never got a call back and just went ahead anyway. And that's assuming you are lucky enough for your wood to be labeled at all. I would estimate about 20% of the lumber I received had no label at all, so I had to measure and mark it all my self. And they give you THOUSANDS of pieces of hardware (screws, nuts, bolts etc) so trying to figure out if you have everything beforehand is a crazy project (we didn't have all the hardware so had to ask for extra). They also sent me the wrong piece for the main structures foundation (got 2 left side pieces and no right side). I explained this to their customer service department several times and they sent me replacements each time. Unfortunately, the replacements sent were the SAME WRONG PIECES I ALREADY HAD. Twice. And a week+ each time. I finally gave up and countersunk my own holes so I could use the wrong pieces. For my inconvenience, I asked that customer service send me their stain since lots of the wood received had minimal or no staining on it. I know you are supposed to re-stain within 90 days, but I expect the set I purchased for thousands of dollars to be sufficiently pre-stained so that I can actually wait 90 days before doing it again. Well, they sent me stain. Exactly 2 ounces of it. Have they seen the size of this thing? When I asked why I received a small, unmarked bottle of what I assume is stain for 1 piece of wood, they said they unfortunately can't send me their gallon bottle for free. At that point I gave up on their customer service. If they don't care about customers who spend thousands of dollars and wont send a gallon of stain to appease someone they sent incorrect parts to 3 times, then they simply don't care. Now that the headaches are all over, I do like the playset. It is well designed, nice looking, and my kids love it. However, I'd probably recommend a different manufacturer to a friend if they were doing something similar to avoid the trouble. Some of the wood does appear to have some molding on it. Luckily for me, those pieces were all roof pieces that they give you extra of (I assume because some will be damaged or molding?). I hope this isn't an issue next season. I'll update my review next spring.

First off, I think it's terrible you don't offer assembly to all customers. My area was unfortunately one of your locations that don't have this option. After 3 attempts to find someone to put the swingset together we finally found someone through Gorillas website. The first guy quit because he said the instructions were terrible and the parts were not labeled. He was a professional who puts swing sets together for a living! Once we found someone recommended by Gorilla it still wasn't a smooth experience. There were several parts missing!! This company came from another state to put our swing set together so we did not have time to contact Gorilla or Home Depot to get the parts. We had to go out and buy $100 worth of missing screws, nuts and bolts ourselves!! Very frustrating after spending so much on the swing set itself. Now, not even a week after it was assembled, the wood is peeling and molding!!!!! I am so disappointed! I did research before making my purchase and was under the impression that Gorilla was the best you could buy in this price range. Complete disappointment!

A lot of fun!!
Customer review from backyardproducts.com logo
This took a lot more time then the estimate but it's absolutely worth it. Directions are mostly clear and you need to make sure you read through the entire step before starting. I would recommend spending the time sorting the wood by step and labeling all the hardware to make the build go smoother. It took two if us two full weekends to get together but the kids love it!! I built this by myself over three 10 hour days (30 hours total). This is the second Gorilla Playset I purchase since 2015 and Gorilla has made many improvements on their materials. My only complaint is the countless time I spent looking for a piece of wood or correct screw. Gorilla should consider labeling each bag of hardware. I had no issues with the build as long as you read the directions. Some reviewers claimed the instructions were too confusing; I have a feeling these are the same people who take days to build a five shelf bookcase. My advice to anyone taking on this task is to organize your materials and hardware first, then begin building, and trust the instructions.
