Q:Motor home roof

Answer This Question

A:  Hello Rich, glad to help. I would personally go with a EPDM Rubber that can be glued down to the roof deck & will provide UV protection. Grace Tri-Flex is great stuff but will not work in the example you provided. If you didn't go with the EPDM Rubber (Sometimes refereed to as a Pond Liner) I would go with Grace Ice & Water Shield Roll Roofing Underlayment. The EPDM Rubber however is the only item that was designed to be a primary roof & not just the underlayment. I hope this Helped.

Q:Can this be used in an area of continuous moisture?

A:  Hello Ham, glad to help. Yes it can be, as an underlayment, not a primary layer or surface. IF it is in that environment also overlap a full 2 feet when installing starting from the bottom & working upwards. This is a propitiatory synthetic blended sheet. Hope this Helped.

A:  This is made of woven synthetic material (kind of like tarps are made). Continuous moisture exposure should not degrade the material itself. Sunlight would affect it the most by causing it to break down but since it will not be exposed it should be fine. It would not be a good material for holding water though, but as a barrier it will be fine.

Q:Says not recommended for use at high altitude under metal roofs. I know the concern is heat, but it's rated to 240 degrees. What would happen?

A:  Hello Timbuck2, this stuff is amazing! Placing under a metal roof I would personally prefer it to be mounted to furring strips 1st vertical & then horizontal to give the roof a breather channel. What I layed down was 1 inch x 3 inch dimensional furring strips. Attached the roof panels directly to the horizontal braces. I also had my strips situated with a gap of exactly 2 feet between the horizontal furring strips & included foam board insulation. when done I had a roof with a 1 inch vertical channel to help with breathing. My underlayment has survived quite well. This is what I did & it worked out great for me. BTW, I was coached by a few Professional Roofers to build my roof like that. It works well, very well. Go Ahead. Hope this Helped.

Great Underlayment for a Metal Roof
Bought this to cover up 30 lb Felt that was beat up by our Montana Winds in just 1 weeks time exposure, After getting the tar paper back down & secured I decided to spend the money & place this product up over the tar paper on my Shed/Out Building. It took about a week to arrive having it shipped to home. This stuff is OUTSTANDING! Wow! 1st off it doesn't tear very easily... 2nd it has a tackiness that is a comfort while working 12-15 feet up with no harnesses or Nets! LoL... It went on very easy & had marked lines for lining up & securing Properly to the roof deck. Used 1 inch roof nails from Home Depot to tack it down. It has held up Magnificently to the Montana Winds & a Few Micro Burst Storms Too! Sheds the water so Well & Seals So well I almost want to use it Solely as the roofing material... Just saying I believe the 6 months exposure would be an easy Stretch for this material!

Gret product
Everything is tested to extreme temperatures and wind in Phoenix and this underlayment has passed. 20 times stronger than the cheap paper they normally use in house construction here. Was very easy to apply and the cost was very reasonable.

Strong and Durable!
We are renovating an old 1920's farm house in Teton Valley Idaho. We have brutal long and cold winters. We are sticking to a tight budget and we needed to dry in the house for winter. The roof needed new sheeting and the budget did not allow for the actual roofing before winter. After reading reviews I chose to go with the Grace Tri-flex. Grace said that the product could be left exposed for up to six months. We installed the Tri-flex last October and just installed the Metal roof in June. It never leaked or tore even with our high winds and blizzards. Snow would never build up on the roof it would always slide right off. I would not recommend going as long as we did with it exposed as the plastic cap nails begin to get brittle in the sun. Don't try to go cheap and use staples, Tri-flex will shrink in the sun and pull out staples. It worked so well on the roof that I also used some of the left over Tri-flex to cover the gables where the siding was gone. Great product. Buy it!

Lightweight, durable, easy to install.
I recievecd this shortly after ordering , but was delayed in installing. It is easy to store until needed. I was able to install by myself on 2 smaller roofs. I have yet to install on the main house, but the pitch of that roof will require assitance. It has been durable and did not require any adjustments thru a couple of rains after installation. I have used this on a previous site that withstood 80mph gusts back in the late spring. It is marked on the face for easy placement of fasteners.

Excellent underlayment. Much better than felt. Easier for DIY, too.
If we ever re-roof again, we would definitely use this underlayment. Worth the extra few $ over using felt. Much easier to work with, more reliable when it rains & so much more durable. Love it! Also made a much smoother base for shingles.

This stuff is great! Rather disappointed that it has been discontinued. I've had this exposed on a kennel roof for almost 18 months without a tear or failure (haven't had time to shingle yet). Won't shingle over this due to the time exposed, but this underlayment is the best I've ever used. Used it on a 14' x 35' shed and had to put the last 2 courses on in a stiff 15+ mph breeze (try doing that with felt!). Good traction while shingling. It does tighten up with exposure, but that helps take wrinkles out that could impact shingle placement. Great underlayment!

PROBLEMS WITH PRODUCT. Product shrinks when sun hits it or hot. It lifts out of the valleys.
I bought this because of the claim that is could stay uncovered up to six months. The listed problems occurred after a few days of alternating rainy and hot periods. 1st It didn't feel stable under foot as it was being laid. A problem when 20 feet up. It slides on the roof held only by stretching nail holes. I worry about leaks at nail holes because of stretching when you walk. 2nd When the product heated up it got real tight. -Enough so that is revealed seams in the rolls that pulled apart. 3rd This was the worst part. When it tightened up from the sun. It lifted out of the valleys. This required the product being cut and new felt being placed before shingling. Overall. I will not use this product again.
