About This Product

With a 1 HP 110V motor, the G0716 Drum Sander has plenty of power to handle lumber up to 9-1/2" wide.Customers have asked us why our drums are not rubber coated. The rubber-coated drums become "spongy" and do not sand evenly or parallel to the ends. The variable-speed lets you dial in the perfect feed rate of the rubber conveyor. The 4" quick-disconnect, smooth sweep dust port was designed to help with dust collection. The drum sander has wheels and stowable handles for mobility when the machine is not being used. The G0716 includes adjustable spring loaded pressure rollers.

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for getting in touch with us. This drum sander is designed to sand materials that are 1/4" thick and thicker. We do not have a machine capable of sanding materials as thin as .025".

Q:why can't Grizzley's engineers come up with a fix for the GO716 drum sander's paper install issue? we've all spent good money on the machine but have wasted large amounts of paper due to extremely poor design! can we ever expect anything?

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out to us. To effectively address this, we recommend ensuring that the sandpaper clamp rotates freely on both sides of the main shaft. Afterward, push the entire clamp into the release position before proceeding to secure the paper in place. We'd be pleased to guide you through this process over the phone while you're in front of the machine. Please contact our Product Support team for assistance.

          Perfect for our needs.
We've recently started re-sawing lumber (with our new 40 anniversary Grizzly band saw!) For small craft projects. This sander gets the saw marks out perfectly, plus helps to make the material a consistent thickness. We like it so much, we are talking about a second one with finer git paper.
Response from Grizzly Customer Experience TeamJan 29, 2024
It's great that the drum sander has helped eliminate saw marks and achieve the desired finish on your lumber. We're happy to hear that you're considering purchasing a second one for even more versatility in your woodworking projects. Thank you for choosing Grizzly and congratulations on acquiring the new 40th anniversary Grizzly bandsaw.

Not worth the money! It worked only for half day the papers wouldn’t stay anymore! I went through one full Box of paper rolls just to finish up some pieces of wood

Horrible design to swap out the sand paper
This is a decent little sander when the paper stays on it, but who ever engineered the clamping mechanics to hold the sand paper should have had to swap out the paper themselves a few dozen times before the product went into production. I teach in a woods shop all day and this machine is constantly loosing the pressure from the clamps and takes forever to swap. Most days the machine doesn't even get to be used because it takes me away from my supervision duties with the rest of the students while swapping out the paper.

            Love Grizzly tools, but......
I run a small woodworking shop and own several pieces of Grizzly equipment. I love my table saw, bandsaw, dust collector but the purchase of the GO716 drum sander was a mistake. The belts are very tricky to install, you have to feed stock barely removing any material because the stock will burn. The breaker that came with the machine kept popping. After getting a higher amp breaker, that problem went away. No, I'm sorry. I love Grizzly tools, but this drum sander falls way short.
              Good product, one design flaw
I purchased this tool about five years ago and have used it frequently since then. My one complaint is that it is taking me 2 to 4 hours every time I switch out the sandpaper. Opening the second spring clamp and feeding the sandpaper correctly requires a fair amount of finger/hand strength. I am 64 years of age and I don't see this getting any easier for me. I don't have arthritis and am fairly strong. All to often I am left with sandpaper fitting too loosely on the drum which ruins both the sandpaper and the wood. This is just poor engineering and doesn't recognize the challenges that the older woodworker faces. We will all become that older woodworker if we live long enough. The fix will incorporate an assist that allows the user with relatively little effort to consistently open the clamping jaws to the correct position.
                Seems OK
Haven't used it much yet. Works so far like it's supposed to.
What a great tool! Don't know how I lived without it!
                    G0716 Sander
For those of you that have purchased this sander and are having problems with new paper on the sander, I have a solution. Do not go by the manual for making the slant cut and then cutting 2.5 in off the tips. First problem I had was that when I got the sander it had 3 1/4" paper on it but it stated in the manual to use 3" paper. On numerous tries I followed the manual and wasted a ton of paper. Then I ordered 4" paper and cut it down to 3 1/4" and did not cut the 2.5 in off the tips and it worked. You will save yourself a great deal of misery and also the tech support is worthless as to this point. Save your time. If I had it to do again I would have gone with another brand.
                      Works as advertised
Purchased this machine in late 2020 to add to my workshop. I debated on purchasing larger models, but decided to stay with the 10" because it's large enough for the overwhelming majority of my work pieces and it takes up less space in the shop. As others have stated in their reviews the conveyor belt tracked a little wonky out of the box and there's a learning curve regarding sandpaper changes. A few minutes of tinkering fixed the conveyor belt without any headache. My first attempt to change the belt took me about an hour of frustration, but after purchasing the right size tensioning pin and a little practice it now takes me 5 or 10 minutes. Overall I'm quite satisfied with the machine. It works as advertised and has saved me hours of random orbit sanding, especially when doing production runs with hundreds of linear feet of material. Make sure to purchase additional grits of sandpaper you may want and purchase or keep a sandpaper cleaner on hand.
