About This Product

Now it's even easier to create a house full of architectural molding and casing sand plane lumber with this dual purpose machine. We have taken the proven design and features of our very popular G1037 planer/moulder and made it even better to produce the G1037Z. We moved the motor underneath for more convenient knife changes and added easily adjustable guides for use when molding stock. The 1-1/2 HP motor provides plenty of power for planning or molding and the included 4 in. dust port allows easy connection to a dust collector. Our low price, combined with its capability, makes this a machine that can pay for itself fast.

        Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for reaching out to us Tom. A potential concern may exist with the chain responsible for driving the leadscrews, resulting in the observed issue. The chain and sprockets are situated beneath the planer base, accompanied by a chain tensioner that could potentially be misaligned. In the event that the issue cannot be identified or resolved, we encourage you to promptly contact our Product Support team at for further assistance.

The planer/molder was exactly as described. The unit was purchased to make plantation shutter louvers and it was necessary to order tooling from a molding knife manufacturer. Installation was very simple and the louvers are perfect. I also ordered a Shop Fox base from Home Depot for the unit and that fit perfectly. The unit can produce moldings at the lower speed of 12 feet per minute with no chatter marks. Only light sanding a painting was required

          Good but not great.
The only complaint I have is that when I change depth I have to change the height of my in fees and out feed rollers. It's a huge pain in the .... Honestly would buy a different model if I had to do it again. Other wise this thing is awesome.

                Good Planer
I am very please with this planer for my applications. Right from assembly planed full width boards without a problem and the finish and squareness was very good. Haven't had a chance to run molding through but I believe it will work well for that. This is the Grizzly tools that I am used to.

The assembly instructions leave a lot to be desired. I found that they could have been written much more specifically and with better photos and arrows and numbering of items and parts. I'm contacting Grizzly to offer my service (as a former architect - made graphic instructions for a living) to improve the instructions . . . consequently. Be prepared to try parts installed this way and that . . . 'till it fits!

                      So far so good!
I bought this to replace a Dewalt 13" Planer that had seen its best years. I have had this for about 3 months now. It was a little bit of work to get it put together just because it heavy and hard to maneuver but once it was put together it has performed as it should. The number 1 thing this planer has over the dewalt is that it moves lumber through the machine faster than the dewalt. It cut my planning time down significantly, cant say an actual number because I have never timed it out, but I definitely think its faster.

Excellent choice if you need both
This was my first planer. Of course, I wanted a do everything machine for a reasonable price, and I mostly got it. Overall, I am very happy with it. Delivery, as with every other Grizzly product I've bought (6 so far), was a nightmare. They brought a tractor trailer, which they promised they wouldn't, and didn't provide the lift gate that I had paid for. Fortunately, my friendly neighbor with the fork equipped tractor drove 4 miles down the road to offload it. This isn't Grizzly's fault, just their choice of shipping agent. Assembly was straight forward. If you're not familiar with Grizzly manuals, it might take a bit of reading to find all the information you want. I recommend downloading the manual and pre-reading it while you await delivery. Factory setup was right on. The tools provided were adequate for assembly and initial use, but you'll want to go out and get a high quality 4mm hex wrench, plus a dedicated 10mm combination wrench. You'll be using them a lot. As a planer I am mostly happy with it. The infeed and outfeed tables are almost nonexistent, so snipe is always a concern. The straight knives do cause some tear out, but if I'm careful with the grain direction, it's usually not too bad. I initially used a shopvac for dust collection, which led to shavings jamming the machine. Make sure you use a sufficiently powerful system. The height adjustment wheel is 2mm per turn, but unfortunately I think in imperial units and there is no alternative. Moulding is the primary reason I chose this planer. If you don't need that, I would pick a planer that can accommodate a spiral cutter. Since my wife is a painter and we're remodeling the house, I cut a lot of moulding. The knife selection is adequate, but could be better. The L gage used to align the moulding knives difficult is too narrow and makes it hard to get a good alignment. I plan to make my own with a broader surface. The guide rails are, in my mind, inadequate. They wander, and if they are not set perfectly, you get inconsistent cuts. I usually try to run a lot of stock through once I've gotten it set up, and any variation in stock width causes problems. My solution is to clamp the guide rails front and back as you can see in the picture. I also add fingerboards front and back to one of the rails. This increase setup time but gives very good results. Make sure you rust proof the table well before installing the bedboard. I left mine on too long and ended up with some table rust. How to actually cut the moulding is not very well explained in the manual. I still don't know if I'm using an appropriate depth of cut, but the results are good. Cutting moulding puts a lot of pressure on the rollers at the high point of the profile. I've got grooves in my rollers. What I do now is after a couple passes, I start to back off on the roller height. This seems to work but it is NOT in the user manual. Changeover time is at least an hour, and you obviously have no planer when it is configured a moulding machine, so make sure you have all your stock prepped ahead of time. I've since added a 15" helical cut planer to the workshop, so this will act as a dedicated moulding machine from now on. Overall, if you have planning and moulding needs, and time isn't a consideration, this is an excellent choice. If you don't need a moulder, but think it'd be nice just in case, I'd consider using the money to get the best planer you can in your price range.
