Then added more change gears, inch-cut lead screws, a 4 in. 3-jaw chuck, reversing switch and so much more. This is an excellent machine for anyone, from the home hobbyist to the seasoned machinist. Q:I see that the lathe power transfer is belt driven. Is the lathe speed changed by switching pulleys or are there change gears?
by|Apr 23, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out. Speed adjustments on the Lathe/Mill are accomplished through belt changes, while feed rates are determined by adjusting gears.

So far so good. I thought I was getting the bigger one but I ordered the wrong one. Be careful as they look very similar. I decided to keep this one as it seems good enough.

          Great tool
Used it several times now and like what it can do if you get lift gate service just remember they won't come in your driveway

            good combo lathe/mill
Solid machine but manual is lacking instructions on how to engage mill. Also lift plate for mill ball bearings are nor secured properly. The manual for a shopfox m1018 has better instructions.

              Great machine for the price
Well built and easy to set up. Perfect for the projects I bought it for. Very pleased with the unit.

I am very happy with my new grizzly mill lathe combo. I have used it several time already. I am trying to fill out the warranty card, but I have a model G4015Z with the serial number of 21489 and I do not have the invoice number. Can you help me with that and I appear to have lost the quill lock lever assembly. I need parts 264, 265A and 265B. Can you also help me with that. I also need a grizzly catalog to get more neat stuff. Just starting, so I will need some help. Thank you for this product.

                    Good but not great
I said I would recommend the machine but only with certain reservations. If you need a lathe and a mill, you need two separate machines. If you are limited in funds or limited in space, this machine is a good compromise. I found that the locking collar for the milling head does not hold the head in place sufficiently. The lathe works better than the mill, but neither is optimal. Set up time is excessive since it frequently happens that a project requires both the lathe and the mill. The machine suffers from the same syndrome and the "Shopsmith" When you try to make one machine to two different things, you wind up doing neither thing well. Check Craigslist listings for Shopsmith. People are giving them away. I think a good alternative is the 10 x 22 lathe and a separate bench mill. No reason to go anywhere but "Grizzly" for those machines.

                      Excellent first machine!
I owned mine for 4 years and never had an issue with it. It is powerful and accurate with many features. I did upgrade to a 3" milling vise and that was it. My only wish for it was I would have liked a steady rest to come with it. The reason I ended up selling it was my projects got larger and the spindle and chuck diameter are 7/8" and I needed one with a larger opening. Other than that, it never missed a beat and was a handy, versatile machine.
