how long does the finish last? Is cedar safe and how long will this planter box last?

Asked by Patty February 17, 2019

Answer

We have had two of these boxes for two years now and they are holding up very well. I did stain the boxes this past year due to water stains. We use them as flower planters on our patio at our Northern California rural home. They are exposed to harsh weather conditions common in a four season climate. Very satisfied with how they are holding up.

What is the height of the planter including the legs

The height that I measured from the ground to the top of a post cap is 20 1/2 inches.

Can it be left outside during a Massachusetts winter?

We are in Maine and keep ours inside or cover them with a tarp if left outside in the winter. We are on year 4 with our boxes.

Pros: Looks nice, very easy to assemble. Cons: Wood is not the highest quality, very light-weight -- not sure how long it will withstand being in the sun/watered. One of the 4x4 legs had a long crack running along entire length (I put in some 3" deck screws to keep it together, because I didn't want to bother returning/exchanging). Overall, the price is not justified for the quality, only for the convenience of not having to cut the wood yourself. If you have a saw, a router, and a few hours, you're better off making it yourself.

Quality product for the price. Glued all connections to firm up the completed project. Adjustable feet added to handle angle of slope. Capped the rails all the way around for a cleaner look and added lattice for a privacy screen for the porch. Everything sealed with tung oil. Fun and easy project with excellent results.

I love this planter! I use it as an herb garden. The fact that it's raised makes it so much easier to work with. I enjoy being able to dash out on the patio and pick fresh herbs for dishes I'm preparing. It was easy to assemble and made with quality material. Couldn't be happier with this purchase!

Pretty cool, no tools required!!! Pre cut pieces will fit together, although we struggled with the last piece, we did have to trim just a tiny bit. Then I stained it with a one step stain & poly, very happy with the results, Since the order was delayed, I didn't get it until the end of summer, I may fill with greens & lights for winter!!! Almost pretty enough for rustic indoor!!!

Easy to assemble but after ordering it, it was delayed twice when I tried to cancel the order because of the delay, Home Depot wouldn’t allow it- the product is great— the ordering process was ridiculous

Love our Garden beds. Easy to set up and move if needed. However, the customer service at Home Depot is so disappointing. I spent closeTo 10 hours total trying to order these garden beds. The agents would tell me there was a problem with the gift card and there was nothing they could do. So I went into Home Depot, where I dealt with a miserable representative. Got the garden beds ordered finally. They were due to arrive to the store April 29th, finally showed up early June. Needless to say, I won’t be doing business with Home Depot again. Rather shop local or even Lowe’s.
