What is the grille size? I want to make sure it will cover the old hole.

Asked by: Tanjnt
9 1/4" x 10 3/4" grille. The fan I pulled out was larger so I will have to do some minor drywall patchwork.

Hello, This fan gets hooked up to a regular toggle switch during installation.

With the fan installed, but not yet hooked up to the vent pipe to the attic, the back flow damper rattles when the wind blows, which is very annoying. Will that rattling go away once a roof vent is connected that has a flapper to prevent backdraft?
Asked by: robm
The back flow damper in my fan does not rattle but, my installation is in a first floor washroom and it exhausts straight about 15 ft. to the outside. I have two other exhaust fans on the second floor that do vent through the roof vent and they are quiet except for very high winds Hope this helps.

50 CFM Ceiling Bathroom Exhaust Fan is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 140.

We had a contractor do it and he had to go up into the attic for installation. We are returning one because we did not have the ability for him to get into the ceiling without major damage. They are VERY quiet in comparison to the ones we had.

I had a 30 years old bath fan that was driving me crazy! My old fan was a 5 sonar and this one was a big difference with only 1 sonar. Now I hear what my kids talk outside the bathroom....hahahaha. Just make sure before you buy it that to measure the current hole in the ceiling. In my case I had a bigger hole in the ceiling from the old device than this one (7.25" x 7.50") and had to add a piece of wood to cover the missing space. It looks good since I painted and the grill covers the missing space. The color of the grill is not super white compared with the ceiling, but it is white. I highly recommend others to buy it.

I love the quick wire nuts which come preinstalled. You don't have to use any twist-on wire nuts. Just push the bare end in and they friction lock in place! The slow-start is odd at first, it takes a full 10-15 seconds for the thing to come up to speed, but if that extends motor life, I am all for it. It took an hour or two total time to install, but that's because I mostly didn't know what I was doing! Works great! And it is QUIET, too!

It is in a small bathroom and I think the flow is fine. I had no problems using this to replace an existing unit. I see some people said you couldn't use this unless you can get to the studs and that is not true. There are mounting holes for both cases and I had no issues. This is very quiet so if you need a fan to provide cover this is not he right one for you. It does take about 10 seconds to spin up to speed.

It matched very well with the dimensions of the old fan, however, the install of this fan relies on a flexible hose for the vent. In my particular case, there was a rigid 3" duct that exits the roof and a 90º adjustable elbow that was way to close to allow this fan to just replace the old. Since the exhaust adapter requires that the housing slide up, there was no way for this to happen with the adjustable elbow. I ended up having to purchase a flex hose to connect to the duct and to the fan exhaust. The power connections were very easy to use, but the hot lead did not have the "click" of the other two which made me a little nervous. I have two other bathrooms that need new fans but those rooms have attic access. That might make the install go a little smoother. The plus side, it does seem quieter than the Nutone.

This fan is light in weight and can be mounted on one end. This fan is quite with an effective air flow removing moisture from the room. The fan takes seconds to come on and ramp up to speed. I understand this helps with extending the life of the fan motor. I would recommend this fan for smaller 8 x 5 foot bathrooms like mine.

People using our 1/2 bath tell us your fan is not working because it doesn't come on immediately. Unfortunately, this was a replacement in a very tight space which limited the units that would fit. I guess I'm going to order one on-line

I bought it for a small bathroom and on the product box it says that this is good for a 50-75 sf room. My bathroom is 55 sf and when I turn the shower on hot, it doesn't do anything, the glass door shower and the mirror get all foggy. It's very weak, now I need to replace it for a stronger one.
