Good for lightweight uses as long as alternate mounting methods are used
These are lightweight string light poles and they worked well for our use case. We recognized immediately that the supplied mounting hardware would not work well in our windy location and clay soil, so opted for alternate mounting methods. We use these for several purposes. We use these around a backyard grill that we built (see pics) and for that use case we buried plastic electric conduit 20 inches into the ground and inserted the poles in the buried conduit. Around our pool, we went with some nice planter boxes with built in light pole holders and filled the boxes with pea gravel. These mounting arrangements are quite sturdy and allow these poles to perform well. The supplied mounting hardware is really not usable for us. The poles are pretty thin at 1.3" and we would really have liked heavier ones, but they do work fine. They aren't strong enough to put a lot of stress by pulling hard on the wires between the poles, as they do bend under high loads, but for simply draping the wires over the loops, they work fine. We've had ours up in high wind and they have held up fine. The 3 sections screw together and form a pretty seamless fit, but would benefit from beefier, longer threading. The finish is very nice and looks good. All in all, for a lightweight standard duty light pole, these are fine.

      Easy to use
Very easy to assemble to full or intermediate heights by screwing together the desired number of tube lengths. The pole has optional spiked and bracket bottom pieces if you want to place it in soil or mount it to a hard surface. It also has semicircular mounting brackets if you want to attach it to the side of a wall, tree, etc. If left freestanding it won’t be very stable on a windy day just like any pole unless it’s bolted to a secure surface. It can be used for any type of light strand and helps to support sagging lights between long distances of fix points.

      Needs more threads
This is a straight forward product. Three separate pole pieces that thread together to support a string light. The threads are not deep enough so the joints sag in the direction of the weight supported. Not good. For $30 you figure the pole would, at the very least, stand upright without a visible bend in the upole.

Hampton Bay 9.8 ft. string pole single pole. Needs much improvement to be up to Home Depot standards.
Look I love Hampton Bay products. The pole is ok. The paint ok. But then who would use this pole? 1 pole, no way to really secure it to the hard surface. Then you look at the spiked attachments. It screws into the bottom of the pole. The spikes tighten down. But they are pot metal. A little stress and snap! Down comes the pole. Also, if you look the other end has an attachment to hold a string of lights, but where is the 90- degree attachment to go around corners? I really think the pole should be reworked. Take the suggestions and improve this item.

Hampton Bay 10’ String Light Pole Kit
A straightforward string light pole by Hampton Bay. I used this pole to ease the tension on my outdoor string lights. The poles are made of stainless steel with an anti-rust coating. There are three pole, which allows for different height settings. One pole has a height of 41 inches, two poles has a height of 77 inches and all three poles assembled has a height of 120 inches. Be careful when handling and assembling for poles as not to scratch the coating. There are several options to install; in the ground with the ground stake, on a fence or the base can go on the concrete. Hardware is included for the different install methods. I used the ground stake. I do which there was a sleeve in one of the tubes to allow for height adjustment. Being that there are only three height settings, I used this at one of my 10’ heights. Overall this pole kit is nice to have and will help, but I wish the height was adjustable to other than the three heights I mentioned.

        Works well with a caveat.
This Hampton Bay 9.8 ft. String Light Pole in Black is a useful tool for stringing lights around pools, decks and any areas where string lighting is enjoyed. The poles are very thick metal and threaded for better rigidity. Tip: Loctite the threads to prevent looseness with temp changes. They are heavy and at 9.8 feet high allows for a perfect height for illumination. The open hooked top piece makes hanging lights a breeze. Pull ties here will make for a better attachment when hanging. The pole mounts with a heavy duty threaded metal base and if anchored in wood or concrete-this pole works very well. The optional ground stakes are useless. The heavy duty weight of these poles cannot be supported with the included stakes. If you are looking for a heavy duty pole for permanent anchoring applications this is a wise choice. There are clips included for pole mounting (i.e. deck and fence posts) that work very well and add additional support if needed. In all fairness, these deserve a rating of four due to the solid construction and threaded assembly. If mounted on a solid base, these poles will work well for your hanging needs and look nice.

I do not recommend this product. We bought 2 of these poles for use at our daughter's wedding reception. The pole is not sturdy enough to withstand the weight of the edison bulb string lights that we used (and that are pictured in the ad for the pole) - we had to supplement with our own volleyball net style string and stakes - and one of the poles still failed and was completely unusable for the wedding. Diameter of the tubing is completely inadequate for the stated purpose, and inground stake is simply too narrow to support the force involved for its intended use. Might work if attached to a building, but then why would you need it? What a joke.
