Henry 887 Tropi-Cool 100% Silicone Gray Roof Coating is a premium, 100% silicone, moisture-cure coating designed to reflect the sun's heat and UV rays as well as protect many types of roofs. While suitable for use in all climates, the 100% silicone chemistry is especially suited for extreme tropical environments, which are exposed to some of the hottest and wettest weather with intense UV exposure. It is specially designed to maintain maximum reflectivity of heat and UV rays as it ages. Its moisture-cure chemistry creates a very aggressive chemical bond with the roof, which allows for permanent ponding water resistance, extreme durability, and superior capabilities of sealing and protection.

Is a special primer needed for the metal roof before applying the Henry 887? How many coats, including primer are suggested for the metal roof?
FrankO, in almost all case no primer is needed for an application to a metal roof. However, prior to the application of Henry 887, best practices suggest that you should do an adhesion test to see how well the product sticks to the roof. The application of Henry 887 only requires a single coat, but you can add multiple coats if you want to. Complete multiple coats within 48 hours of each other. Otherwise, you will need to clean the roof again.
Dry time
Brown, this will depend on the weather. Warmer climates will dry quicker than cooler climates. On a day with the sun out and warm it may be 4-8 hours. It is rain-safe in 15 minutes. Thank you for trusting in Henry and Home Depot.
can this be used on asphalt shingles up north?
Carl, Henry 887 TropiCool 100% Silicone is not designed to be applied to shingles of any kind. Henry 817 should only be applied to flat and low-slope roofs.

We are a little unclear as to what the failure was. Henry 887 100% Silicone is a roof coating and not a leak stopper. All leaks like cracks, splits, holes and seams should be repaired with Henry 884 or 885 100% Silicone Roof Sealant prior to coating the roof. Does it work for polyurethane foam roof
jooo, Henry 887 TropiCool 100% silicone can be applied to an SPF roof (spray polyurethane foam roof). Just make sure that you clean the roof thoroughly with a water hose that has a fairly strong spray nozzle and let dry. As a preventative measure, seal all roof penetrations, curbs, flashings, areas where dissimilar materials intersect and any other areas that could leak with Henry 884 TropiCool 100% Silicone Roof Sealant or Henry 885 TropiCool 100% Silicone Seam and Repair Sealant prior to coating the roof.
Can I use this on tpo roof membrane
Mark, Henry 887 TropiCool 100% Silicone can be used to coat over an aged TPO membrane. That means that it has had the chance to be in the weather for 7 to 10 years. You will need to make sure the roof is clean and dry prior to coating it.
