About This Product

With Honda's new GCV200 engine, the HRXHYA delivers high performance and efficiency. This self-propelled lawn mower is packed with advanced design features like Honda's exclusive 21 in. Nexite deck, micro-cut twin blade system and the 4-in-1 versamow system with clip director - allowing you to mulch, bag, rear discharge or shred leaves - without any tools needed. The hydrostatic cruise control provides gradual speed adjustment to match your mowing conditions. The blade stop system (roto-stop) is a safety feature that stops the blades without stopping the engine. So, you can safely step away from your lawn mower without having to restart the engine. Q:Just got mine delivered today. When I push it forward (engine off), the rear wheels make a clicking sound as they rotate. Is this normal?

Answer This Question

A:  Absolutely normal. You should worry if they don’t click.

A:  Hi John, Yes, this is normal when it’s not in drive. It’s the ratchets in the wheels that you are hearing. Not an issue!

    by|Jun 18, 2024

A:  That’s normal. It’s part of the drive system. It doesn’t have a belt, it’s got a hydro transmission.

Q:Which Honda mower would you suggest for mowing up hill?
          by|Jun 12, 2024
          1 Answer
          Answer This Question

A:  Hello, The HRX217HYA lawn mower handles hills well. There isn’t really a mower that is better or worse on slopes specifically. Some people like the immediate responsiveness of Smart Drive; some prefer Select Drive; others swear by the hydrostatic drive on the HRX217HYA. (Which is our personal favorite.) We’d recommend stopping by a local dealer and getting your hands on the handles of the HRN and HRX to see which one you like the feel of. You should also consider which features are most important to you. Roto-stop, our blade-stop system, is probably the most popular. We don’t recommend mowing a steep slope, i.e. over 20 degrees, because it can starve the engine of oil and cause damage. We also recommend mowing across slopes, rather than up or down, because it provides better traction and is safer for the user.

            Q:Electric start?
            by|Jun 7, 2024
            2 Answers
            Answer This Question

A:  Hello, No. The HRX217HYA model does not have an electric start feature. If an electric start is important to you I recommend looking at the HRX217VLA or HZA models because they both have an electric start feature.

            by|Jun 10, 2024

A:  This model, the HRX217HYA, does not have the electric start feature. The HRX217HZA model has the electric start feature in addition to the same features as the HYA. The Honda HRX217VLA and Honda HRN216VLA also have electric start.

I only have 1 full day of mowing with this Honda HRX217K6HYAD. So far so good. It's well made and functions as advertised. Starts easily, it's quiet, cuts well, and the hydrostatic drive pulls uphill very strong! Just what I needed for my large hilly yard. Home Depot delivered next day as promised!

I did not have a chance to use this mower due to shipping damage. The mower was delivered via UPS. The mower handle was bent, and the mower oil had leaked out on to the inside of the box.

                Good Mower
Overall good mower it works really well. It is easy to start the self propelled feature works great. It had no problems mowing my almost 1 acre yard I really like like this mower. My only problem is the mower Handle came bent and I can't change its position without having to unscrew the nearby bolt so the quick change feature of it is not able to be used

                  Mixed feelings on this purchase
Was hoping to like this machine. Following is what bothering me: 1. Box arrived damaged, unit appeared to be repackaged - didn’t appear new by any means (no cover wrappers etc) 2. Engine splutters in idle condition, even at high speed idle — is this normal? 3. In complete mulch mode, significant grass accumulates in bagging discharge area and very hard to clean - poor design or is something broke? contemplating about returning or swapping to better unit as the mower is within return time window

All 3 of the mowers purchased from Home Depot arrived damaged and unable to use. Plus Home Depot flagged the return so I’m stuck with a damaged mower that can’t be used.

                    unsure
Just received my Honda HRx217 with GCV 200 engine. A bit worried. The nexite deck looks like it can be scratched or damaged easily. Scratches or blemishes. Heard recall was given, which may make sense since my box delivered was open. Missing some packaging, to include the bag for the bag… you’d think spending 1000$ on this id have at least one that wasn’t open. See pictures of delivery. Even Fedex apologized, not their fault. Home Depot you lost a lot if Kudos, today.

                      Nab one before they’re gone.
Originally bought this mower last year to replace my 20 year old Honda mower and returned it the next day due to the recall. Wish I’d kept it because turned out I had a serial number not in the recall. So I just bought it again and it arrived today. I can see the cam shaft has been replaced based on the center punch mark on the engine. It was packed perfectly and you would never know it was out of the box. There are a couple minor blemishes from the repair which dulled the finish.

                        Finally Arrived
I received my new mower today. No scuffs or scratches or oil stains, fingerprints etc. Waited a year to get this after almost 30 years with my John Deere still going strong. I purchased this to have ready for when I retire my JD mower. There are not many choices for gas powered mowers these days, they are pushing battery powered mowers which I'm not a fan of due to costs of batteries and reliability. Honda has a great track record for reliability and quality.

I already had the same model that was 20 years old. It still is running, but I didn't want to miss out on the last of the Honda Gas Mowers since Honda is getting out of the mower business. I didn't want a battery powered mower in the future so this was just the right time. Honda makes the best mowers.
