Is this compressor quieter or louder than average?

Is this compressor quieter or louder than average?
Asked by: jsandra
There is absolutely nothing quiet about this compressor. Is it quiet compared to other compressors?...I don't know...but it's loud enough that you need to wear hearing protection, and once you get to that point....the comparison to other compressors no longer really matters IMHO.

Should I add a air/water filter to this unit to protect the life of my tools?

Is this necessary or does it alreay have one?
Asked by: Gnik
You can but if you routinely drain the tank, it is not necessary. Added protection never hurts.

My unit sits on the drain valve at the bottom, should I tighten the drain valve or is that how the design is?

Asked by: JS
All compressors have/should have a drain valves at the lowest point of the tank because there, moisture/condensate, will accumulate. It is recommended that, on periodic basis, depending of how much you use it, you should drain the condensate from the tank, this will alleviate the formation of rust inside your compressor tank and extend its life.

20 Gal. 175 PSI Portable Electric Air Compressor is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 614.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Air to Spare The 20 Gallon Air Compressor has a working pressure of 175PSI and that handles just about any tool that you hook to it. To me it runs quieter than a pancake and runs less often. I have used it with nail guns, staplers and air torque wrenches. It has yet to fail me in any way. It is portable and that is a plus when you work on a job site and you have 200ft of air hose strung out to reach the job. It is compact and stands on its two own wheels and brace this makes it pretty study. By adjusting the needed pressure it makes using a multitude of tools with different pressures a breeze. I like the fact you can fill a basket ball of run a torque wrench with just a turn on the knob. The power cord is not 3 feet long it is a nice length so you can get away from the power source a good distance but lets not go overboard like 15 feet. I like the way is sounds and the pump can keep up with 2 nailers on a framing job. That’s what I like. This is just the right size for the advanced DIY;er. Lots of air tools, lots of air.

No need to install 240v. outlet for this one! Runs low on air pressure fairly quickly when used with very high volume tools or using it for a yard blower, then (comparatively) slow refilling.( I am more used to big commercial units). I split the air discharge pipe so I have an unregulated (full 175psi) outlet and a regulated outlet. That way I am not constantly adjusting the regulator. Definitely not very quiet! Not so loud the neighbors complain, but you can definitely hear it inside our house. Our garage is attached to the house. Works great for what we needed here at the house- filling tires and running air tools up to 1/2in drive impact. Would not be sufficient for shop use. The 175psi cut off pressure is a real advantage. The built in regulator is a great feature also. You can cut the air pressure down for tools like a die grinder's recommended 90psi. All in all, we are quite happy with this compressor. I shopped around quite a bit and believe it would be difficult to find a better one in this price range. First "oil-less" compressor for me, so I guess time will tell how long it will last.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Husky air compressor I'm very disappointed in the air compressor that I bought and the only reason I bought it was I had a husky air compressor before I bought it because it lasted 15 years and it die so I figured I'd bought another one thinking I would get the same quality as my first compressor but I didn't so that's why I'm disappointed in my purchase of this compressor and I've only had this new compressor 4 months and its already broke and the only thing I use it for is to run my half inch impact on it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very much improved with a few areas left for improvement Overall a lot of improvements have been made from the previous Husky 20 gallon series. The machine is quieter and lighter. It seems to be taller and have a smaller footprint. There are two areas where improvements were not made. The drain valve on the bottom of the tank is small threaded twist style and not a quarter turn. Also, some of the exposed parts get very hot and are not covered. See photos. They pose a burn risk if you touch them during operation. It took me 8 minutes to fill the tank up completely. The times I got to fill up the tank are as follows: 1:30 to 50 psi 3:15 to 100 psi 6:00 to 150 psi 8:00 to 175 psi I think it is a great residential style unit that will get most residential style projects done with ease

The Husky 20 Gal. 175 PSI Portable Electric Air Compressor is well built and provides plenty of air for our needs. I like the higher than average 175 PSI rating on the tank as it does not deplete the stored air too fast. It loses a star for noise, it is loud, maybe not as loud as those smaller pancake models, but loud, well over the 85 db. stated. All in all a very good package for around $200 that should fit nicely in any shop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great compressor, no assembly required This is all assembled in its box. Ready to plug in and use right away. Made in the USA too! You will need you own air hose to connect to your air tools. It has a 50% duty cycle. My unit had some liquid in the tank, probably condensate from a test which could have been drained before being shipped. The handle makes it very easy to wheel about, making the compressor very portable. The 20 gallon tank means it hold a heck of a lot of air, making it easier to use tools that demand a lot of air. It also of course takes a while to drain the tank after use! I also like the fact that the motor does not need oil. The unit is 18" wide at the wheels, and is almost 42" high. There is however almost zero clearance between the drain valve and the floor, making it rather tricky to open the drain valve while the unit is vertical. It is not a problem if you can bring it to the horizontal position, but since I wanted to take advantage of its small footprint, I decided to bolt some pieces of wood onto the base of mine so that it raised it 3-1/2" off the floor. This allows me to place a small dish below it to collect condensate and provides easier access to open the valve.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from nice compressor Easy to use. Only takes about 7 minutes to fill from empty. Only minor complaint is that the air fitting that came on the machine is poor quality but is easily replaced. It leaked with my automotive fittings but it did work. It's quieter than I expected but still pretty loud. Powers air tools well.
