A:  No, a larger commercial snake is needed for clearing a sewer line. Mike

A:  rented one manual from homedepot. it worked for me in my outside line. I think this would work to for light root clogs. cheaper than a plumber and glad i tried and fixed myself. I'm going to order one of these as a back up if it happens again.

    Easy effective & inexpensive
You don’t need a fancy looking $200 motorized piece of plastic to impress your friends and JO about. What you need is this fatter longer snake to get’r done fast & easy. Don’t over think it.

      Helped unclog toilet!
Like many other ppl here, my daughter flushed “by accident” a plastic bottle about 4” tall down the toilet. I saw reviews on this one and purchased one. I had trouble getting in down the toilet drain but with perseverance and some elbow grease (a little sweat and a couple prayers), i was able to pull the bottle close enough to opening. I used plunger and finally just used my hand (ikr, gross…I’m chopping it off) and grabbed bottle. Phew!😅

        Plastic Marks Toilet
I was careful not to let the metal parts hit my toilet so as not to leave marks. Turns out the "protective" plastic sleeve leaves marks just as bad. To make matters worse, it didn't fix our slow drainage problem.

          Worked like a charm
No idea how the plastic ball got flushed down the toilet, but I think it has to do with sleep depravation and our 1 year old son... This thing did the trick when a plunger was useless, saved us hundreds on a plumber call.

              This Auger Worked perfectly!
After a day of plunging the toilet, I watched some YouTube videos and saw this Auger in action. I thought for $15.00 why not give it a try. I had the toilet flushing again in about a minute! Highly recommended.

                It worked with modification
After success with past clogs in this particular bowl for the past 13 years, I finally faced an unplungeable toilet clog in the kids bathroom. Off to HD I went, and purchased this toilet auger. As someone else’s review stated, the head was too big to snake down to the actual clog. I ended up having to use a couple of heavy duty pliers and bending the head off completely (messy brown pita). Once I did that I was able to snake the wire down to the clog and successfully cleared clog.

Crap quality snake head needs to be shorter.
When trying to snake my toilet the plastic housing around the snake broke in 2 places. The "heavy duty" spring bent withing the first 2 minutes of use which made it super hard to use once it was bent. The head of the snake needs to be half the size in length to fit in the trap way easier. Not worth $15.

Cleared major kitchen sink clog way down stream.
Removed disposal and p trap. 1/2 inch spring with hollow core is flexible enough to feed through a few turns but stout enough to keep pressure on the clog. Once I bored through the clog clockwise by hand, I removed by continuing to crank clockwise while pulling. Removed the hand crank. Next I slightly bent the tip of the cable 15-20 degrees so it would scrape the walls of the pipe then attached a 1/2 cordless drill the other end. Occasionally spinning while feeding until nearly all cable was in the pipe. Added some water to the drain. Ran drill continuously clockwise and walked backwards slowly til removed. A bit messy. Reassembled everything and draining normally now.

Husky 1/2 in X 50 ft Drain Auger
This auger is well made and durable. I have used it a few times and both times it has worked well. It requires two people to operate it. One to guide it down the pipe while the other one does the turning. I put mine inside a 5-gallon bucket as one reviewer did. The trick is not to force it, but let it guide itself down the pipe as you turn it. Once you feel that you have gotten to the blockage, then do the turning of the handle. On 3-inch pipes, it does okay, but not as effective as a 2-inch pipe. But did the job in clearing my drainage problems. It's well worth having in a home for drainage issues. It's also guaranteed a lifetime. You can't go wrong with buying it.
