will this remove a plastic sprinkler head riser?

you would be better off using an extractor made for irrigation systems. It is longer (to reach deeply buried broken off risers/nipples) and has a handle (instead of needing a wrench or socket) since you don't need much torque for plastic pipes, and it would be easier to manipulate without chance of it getting lost in a deep wet hole.

Perfect for broken shower pipe
The shower pipe extractor is a little larger and longer than the 1/2” extractor as a 1/2” shower pipe is thinner than normal 1/2” pipe. It’s longer to provide more working room since the elbow is typically deeper in the wall. It took longer to open the package than it did to remove the broken pipe! Not sure about all the one star reviews, most of which said it didn’t work on a shower pipe. I just tapped it in with a hammer and with one turn of a crescent wrench it was out. If you have any difficulties, you might try putting it in at more of an angle or even wedging a small piece of metal in between the tool and the broken pipe. Can’t beat this for the price!

My shower head pipe had broken off and I had to extract the bit of pipe that has snapped off in the fitting. The house is 30 years old and these are the original parts. I was concerned that maybe the piece was rusted in and I'd never get it out (as I had read in some other negative reviews). I proceeded gingerly trying not to apply too much force in case I twisted and damaged the supply line. My first attempt didn't work so I applied just a little more insertion force on my second try and, lo and behold, the piece came out in under one minute. Complete success. I'm very pleased with the product.

I had a broken 1/2 pvc nipple inside a bronze female end that is embedded in an autofill cylinder for my pond. At first I thought the sizes weren't going to work because one was too small to grip and the other too big to fit. However, I used a metal hammer to gently tap the bigger size tool into the orifice. Once the tool was straight in there, I used a socket wrench to remove the broken piece. It saved me hours of frustration in the Arizona summer heat. Also, it left the bronze pipe intact. I saw youtube videos of someone extracting the nipple with a chisel and that was to risky for me. I don't give it a 5 because I felt I had to juggle sizes. The shape of the tip should be longer and the cone allow for more variability in size. In other words... There should be overlap between the sizes. I hope it works for you too.

Better Than Expected
I don’t normally write reviews but this extractor set was a life saver! I broke a 3/4” fitting off while working on the hydraulic system of my 1942 Ford tractor, leaving just the threaded section still in the spool valve body. I picked this set up along with a set of internal pipe wrenches to attempt extraction, fairly certain that neither would work with such an old and corroded piece. I hammered in the one that fit snuggly, gave it a crank with a 12” pipe wrench and, to my surprise, the extractor bit and the broken pipe started backing out. This saved an incredible amount of time and I highly recommend these!

Bought this product because I needed to fix a broken off faucet piece outside my house. At first I tried prying it off with pliers and I even tried to crack the treads but to no avail the piece seemed to be molded to the piping over time, and it didn't help that with every scrap I did, it flattening the seams leaving no grip to hold on to. I searched online and saw this, I was reluctant that it would work but once I had hammered it in tight and snug, grabbed an adjustable wrench and it came off like butter. I would definitely recommend this set to anyone that was in my position!

(What's this)
A six piece set for pipe sizes: 1/8 inch, ¼ inch, 3/8 inch, ½ inch and ¾ inch, as well as ½ inch shower arms (which may have a thinner wall), the coarse left-hand “thread” will dig into the inside diameter of a broken or stuck nipple to allow removing with a wrench. The six pieces come blister-packed, however once the package is opened there is not clip or holder to keep the pieces from rolling around your tool box. The extractors appear dimensionally accurate and when used to remove a close nipple from a reducer functioned as expected. With a slight tap, I was able to insert the extractor into the cut end of black pipe without having to ream out the opening. Overall a good addition to your plumbing tool box.

(What's this)
Believe the "Home Plumber" should have a set of these Extractors in the tool box. Given plumbing's age and water corrosion over time, plumbing part replacement becomes a when question, not an if one. The range of sizes should enable the extraction of almost any residential nipple situation. The threads are sufficiently deep to grab most nipple extensions and thus, enable their removal. While I am not sure how long each extractor will last, they should be more than adequate for home use. And, keep you from running to the plumbing shop for single extractors, and guessing at the right size.
