does this work for 3/8 flooring

Asked by kev July 1, 2020

Answer

This nailer does not come with a base plate to accommodate 3/8" flooring. Refer to your specific flooring manufacturers installation instructions to make sure you're choosing the correct fastener size so you don't void the warranty. That said, Typically 3/8" flooring would be engineered or a more dense/exotic hardwood and require an 18ga cleat for installation which is thinner than a 16ga cleat, usually designed for 5/8" and 3/4" solid hardwoods. Please reach out directly if you have any further questions before choosing your tool. We do have an option in the 18ga nailer for you as well: HD18GLCN: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Pneumatic-18-Gauge-1-3-4-in-L-Cleat-Flooring-Nailer-HD18GLCN/205602738?keyword=HD18GLCN&semanticToken=d00300r001200000_08a797c2ecee37fc9be513d16422acd7_1593692116361+d00300r001200000+%3E++cnn%3A%7B14%3A0%7D+cnr%3A%7B7%3A1%7D+cnp%3A%7B10%3A0%7D+cnd%3A%7B4%3A0%7D+cne%3A%7B8%3A0%7D+cnb%3A%7B0%3A0%7D+cns%3A%7B5%3A0%7D+cnx%3A%7B3%3A0%7D+cnq%3A%7B0%3A0%7D+cnw%3A%7B0%3A0%7D+cnv%3A%7B1%3A0%7D+st%3A%7Bhd18glcn%7D%3Ast+oos%3A%7B0%3A1%7D+tgr%3A%7BNo+stage+info%7D+smf%3A%7Bca%2Cbr%7D%3Asmf+nf%3A%7B1%7D%3Anf+qu%3A%7Bhd18glcn%7D%3Aqu

How often do you have to oil?

Asked by TOm June 14, 2020

Answer

As a general rule, we like for the nailer to get 2-3 drops of pneumatic detergent free oil every 1,000 nails or so, or every time it gets taken out of storage after a while to be used again.

How come our 2 inch cleat nails aren’t going all the way in ?

Asked by UncleLeo July 26, 2019

Usually if the cleats don't go all the way in , you need more air pressure. Also, make sure to keep the nailer oiled. If the slide can't move freely it will cause the cleats or nails to not go in as they should.

The "foot pad" on mine says 5/8"&9/16" Flooring. Can I adapt it for 3/4"?

I think you could put a 1/8” shin under the foot to keep it in contact with plywood base while nailing. I’d probably try using it at max height and see how it works first. This is a tool that practice makes it better.

That question is dependent upon the width of the boards you are installing. You will need to calculate the number based on the spacing requirement of the staples & the width of the boards.

I was having a hard time deciding between renting a flooring nailer or purchasing one for a small (500 square foot) install project. I'm extremely glad I went with purchasing this one. I've shot over 1000 nails with it with zero misfires, zero jams, zero problems. Just be sure to familiarize yourself with the operation of this tool and oil it regularly according to the instructions.

Good homeowner grade tool. My project was about 350 square feet of flooring. Got the job done. Just remember to oil the tool a lot. Tool at one point would not reload after firing a nail. Had to also add oil to the striker so it would retract. Good tool for your own house, a pro should spend the money on better tool.

I installed my first hardwood floor. We installed American Walnut, straight from the lumber mill. When researching installation, I discovered that some people had difficulties installing walnut, primarily tongues splitting. I researched nailers, and decided on a brand. I did not want to rent one for fear of being rushed. I was rather surprised that when I went to HD, the only one available in store was this one. Had to get started, so all my research went out the window. I nervously bought this one. It far exceeded expectations. We laid about 600 square feet with relatively few problems. I experienced 2 jams, which were cleared pretty quickly, but in the nailers defense, these were caused by low air pressure (blew fuse and didn't know it). The mallet was high quality and very nice. I will add that at one point, I dropped nailer and the air compressor fitting broke. 2 dollar fix but had to drive to the hardware store, a good trip for me. I'd suggest buying a spare. I'm still giving it 5 stars.

Flooring nailer/stapler has been a life saver while doing wood flooring in our living room. We were worried that the product would not be good quality because it was $200-300 cheaper than other models in the store, but it has worked well with no issues doing our 350 sq. foot area. We chose to use staples instead of nails and they did have those right in store and we were able to purchase everything all at one.

Floor Nailer came equipped with quick release air connection and nice rubber striking mallet with fiberglass handle. Used it with 2" L floor nails, which load easily. Also take staples and T nails. Good weight and feel of the tool, drives nails into 3/4 inch hardwood flooring with ease. Also has extra plate for thinner flooring. Sits on flooring nicely, can use mallet to tap end of tool to seat wood flooring. Easily engage driver mechanism with mallet, which allows you to get close to the walls when applying the last few rows of flooring before switching to nail gun. Didn't have a single jam on a small room project. Given the price, much better than going crazy trying to get as much done in as little time as possible as when you rent a nailer. If you plan on doing more than a small room, well worth the investment.

Great stapler, nice design, should last

This is a really nice floor stapler, and if you plan on doing anything more than a small room you should invest in one. It's definitely worth having a stapler if you're going to put hardwood or bamboo flooring down. The Husky stapler is 3-in-1 meaning it can be used with staples or with two different types of flooring cleats (T-cleats and L-cleats). Most staplers in this price range are just 2-in-1. I always use staples so it's not an extra feature that interests me but it does make it easier to find fasteners when you're doing a project. It takes 1 1/2" to 2" 16 gauge cleats and staples. You can definitely find the staples at the local HD, though others report the cleats aren't available. The stapler comes with an attachable foot plate and hex wrenches so you can change the plate depending on the height of your flooring. It works with either 5/8" or 3/4" (though the HD description says 1/2" it's wrong) and the foot plate is easily swapped out. The mallet is very nice, weighted well, and heavy enough (40 oz) that you don't have to swing too hard to get the right pressure. The arm of the mallet is made of (I'm assuming) fiberglass and has a soft surface in the grip. The stapler has a cushioned handle also which is a nice touch since you usually don't wear gloves on flooring jobs and these cushions will make the job easier on your hands and arms. Comparing it to a stapler I already owned, the handle on the Husky is a little bit shorter and the footprint a little bit longer, but these shouldn't impact use much. The Husky, though seemingly built better, is a little bit lighter than the other one I have, which will also make it easier on the body at the end of the day. One nice feature is that the air hose connector is slightly offset to the left so your hose won't get tied up with the staple clip. Overall the design on this is good and the quality is great. Comparing it to my other one, it's easy to tell the difference and the Husky stands out as a really well made tool. This is a tool that should last a long time. Use it, oil the valve between jobs, and use it again. Perfect for the homeowner renovating their house, or for the contractor who only occasionally does floors.

This flooring nailer works great and the mallet is a plus instead of having to buy separate and you don’t need to hit it super hard because the mallet it’s a bit heavy so it has a lot of strength. This unit comes with two plates, one is for ¾” floors and the other plate for 5/8” although the description on this site says it comes with a ½” plate, not accurate. I couldn’t find the cleats or the nails for this at my local HD store, however I was able to find them online and received them fast enough so I wouldn’t have to wait that long to use it. Overall I’m very happy with the performance of this nailer and would consider buying this brand for other tools.

This is a quality product that comes complete with mallet, switchable face plates for different flooring thickness, sample nails and staple to compare when shopping for them and lubricant. The instructions are clear for usage and troubleshooting jams which are rare. The price is a winner!
