Rusting after 8 months
InSinkErator said, "This is not rust in the sense that it will compromise the structural integrity of the unit, it is more of a reddish colored thin film." Well, rust is rust, and this should not be happening after just 8 months of use.

Hi HDCustomer, thank you for sharing your feedback. The amount of rust or discoloration varies and is dependent on usage and what may have been put through the disposer. The water quality, use of aggressive cleaning solutions, or even grinding of acidic foods can speed up discoloration. Grinding components with brown discoloration or surface rust is normal and simply cosmetic. Rust will not degrade the performance of the disposer unless it is well outside of the disposer's lifespan. If you still have other concerns or questions, you can reach us at https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask.

    Rusts and Leaks
Very disappointed in this product, have had previous insikerator model which lasted many years. When the motor burned out, I purchased it again thinking the build quality would be the same, it's not. Only after 4 years of very light use started leaking from the bottom due to rust, even though the unit functions fine. Called customer service they gave be a coupon for 40% off of a new unit, no thank you. Switched over to Everbilt 1/2 horsepower with a 4 yr warranty and lifetime corrosion warranty for half the price.

Hi Faizi, we appreciate you sharing your feedback with us. Just as is expected with other small home appliances, the life of an InSinkErator® Disposer is entirely dependent upon service conditions, usage patterns, and water quality. The amount of rust or discoloration varies and is dependent on usage and what may have been put through the disposer. Rust will not degrade the performance of the disposer unless it is well outside of the disposer's lifespan. We’re sorry to see you go, but we completely understand how upset you must feel. We hope you’ll consider InSinkErator again in the future.

You will have to replace soon
If you like replacing garbage disposals, this may be the one for you. Despite not using it a ton it died before the 2 year mark.

Quick Repacement for 23 Year Old Badger 1
I was able to reuse original mounting ring, The unit was hardwired so I transferred The electrical fittings. Slightly taller than Badger 1 but everything was the same. I liked the idea of having the extra power.

            Excellent product
When I bought the house I asked the previous owner to please replace the garbage disposal because it was making a lot of noise and vibrations. The previous owner reported to me that the plumber said that the stainless steel sink was too thin and that is why it vibrated so much. I finally got tired of dealing with this Whisperator and ordered an Insinkerator brand from Amazon and installed it myself. Today I am so pleased with the decision I made because the disposal was really easy to install and it’s smooth & quiet.

My InSinkErator Badger 500 1/2 hp garbage disposal only lasted for 10 month.
I bought this Badger 500 1/2 hp online on September 29 2013 from Homedepot (HD), received it on Oct. 2 2013 and since then had stored it at home as an emergence replacement. When my last one suddenly failed on October 30 2019, I put on this one on October 31 2019. Today, it's Aug 23 2020, I suddenly saw a full bowl of water (in the photo [fig1], I already dumped the water from the bowl but you still can tell water leak from two screws [fig2,fig3]) under the sink and overflowed onto the plastic cloth under the bowl. Fortunately, I always put an open plastic container under the disposal for I am always prepared for the worse situation. So this one only lasted for 10 months. Because I bought it from HD in Oct 2013 but didn't install it until October 31 2019, so I even don't know how to go about claiming that three year warranty. Maybe this one is a lemon one? I put my review here to let people know the quality of Badger 500 1/2 hp. Very disappointed with InSinkErator Badger 500. I still have my original electronic order receipt. The email hidden from the public is my HD account name so you can find all my contact.

Hi, I apologize for your experience with our product. The life of an InSinkErator® Disposer is entirely dependent upon service conditions and usage patterns, just as is expected with other small home appliances. Leak from the disposer can sometimes be caused by improper installation where the water could be leaking from a higher place like the mounting assembly. To determine where exactly the leak is coming from, please refer to this link: https://bit.ly/2FUeIHr. Our quality control team and top-notch engineers are always testing our products to make sure you get the very best quality. If we find a flaw, we fix it and stand behind it. Therefore, we warranty our products for any manufacturing quality issues. Details about our warranty policy can be found in your product's manual or our website here: https://bit.ly/2YwEQPi.

We had the Badger 5 at the home we bought 18 years ago so I don't know its exact age but we bought it again with cord attached.Seems to be good after 2 months use , hard to input on line for warranty registration. Product came faster for delivery than quoted, wish H.D. would stock this at least one out of 5 stores.

It worked great for 14 months, but noticed a leak and then a hole in the larger, upper section. I'm guessing something punctured it but I only remember one time where a small metal item may have been inside and turned on for seconds upon hearing it. Also 3/4 HP is a little on the loud side.

Hi Ant, I’m sorry to hear about what happened with your disposer.
