Q:Third InSinkErator that started tripping GFCI breaker and then died. Each worked fine for about 6-12 months, then started tripping the GFCI with greater frequency, then each died. Does anyone have the same experience?

Answer This Question

A:  Dear Customer, Thank you for reaching out to us. If the tank keeps causing the circuit breaker to trip, please also test it by plugging in another appliance that draws a similar amount of electricity (e.g., a hair dryer, curling iron, or toaster) into the outlet. If the circuit trips with the other appliance, there may be an issue with your circuit breaker. If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us at https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask. We are here to help in any way we can.

Four Hot100 tanks have failed in 10 months
From the first unit installed Mar 2023, through three replacement HOT100 tanks, every tank failed within 60 days. Insinkerator kindly provided a refund. I opened up 2 of the units and found the same thing: the immersion heater coil is spot welded to the mounting plate. And that weld spot opens, corrosion is there, and water gets into the heating element. The element fails. This seems like a terrible design error. And I believe a recent manufacturing problem.

Tank seal failure in less than 5 years!
For a (supposedly) premium brand (and price) I would have hoped not to have had failure in less than 5-years!! Very disappointing.

Hi! Thanks for sharing your feedback. The life of an InSinkErator® Hot Water Dispenser is entirely dependent upon service conditions, usage patterns, and local water quality, just as is expected with conventional home water heaters. Excellent product that does what it says
Replacing a 6 year old insinkerator tap and boiler that started to leak ( the boiler). Older model had a more functional tap , as it went up higher ( like a bar dink tap) allowing you to fill taller mugs or containers easier, this model is more shallow and not as easy to fill taller mugs. The lever to flow water seems more solid than previous. I am fairly handy, so the connections are pretty straightforward, but some might need a plumber to bite into water line under the sink ( I had installed a separate valve shut off previously to isolate the hot water tap) Everything else very good, we are also using the optional filter … Too bad these little tanks start to build up corrosion and scale and eventually start to leak . We would not ever be without one . Thanks

Hi Karin55, I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your hot water heater. The serial number is located on a silver sticker about the size of a Band-Aid, attached on the tank's power cord. If it's not heating the water, please check this link for some troubleshooting tips - https://bit.ly/3aN95Fj. I hope this helps!
Does Heating and dispensing with ease. BUT... Quick water connect failure.
Instant oatmeal and evening tea are daily occurrences in my family and the instant boiling water is awesome! This is the Third home that I have added one of these units. In the first two houses, the units worked without issue (6years and 3years respectively) and they were fine when we sold the homes. The current unit has been functional as expected for 4 years. Recently I notice a slowing at the spicket, and when I looked under the sink, water was everywhere. The Quick connect thing that makes install easy is also prone to failure on the water in line. I have had this same quick connect design on Moen kitchen faucets fail 3 times over the past 5 years. Though irritating from the water damage below the sink, at least Moen sends free replacements and easily swapped out. I do not know what this company will do with this simple, cheap plastic Part.

These hot water tanks work well for awhile and are easy to use/replace. However, they are not made to last long. My first one of about 10 years ago had a hot-water tube made of a material that deteriorated and leaked after about a year. I was able to replace the tube with silicone rather than replace the whole assembly. Then the thermostat wore out at about the 5-6 year mark. It's a simple mechanical design that just can't last long. Is a shame, a newer model for Europe released in 2017 has an electronic thermostat now; not for sale in USA and is 220v. Replaced that with one the manufacture had sent me for the first failure. Third one died after about 5 more years due to leaking around the bottom drain and the thermostat. This one caused additional damage as it was a subtle drip under the sink, destroying the wood at cabinet bottom, so have to fix that too. Took the tank apart to see about repairing it, looked impractical and unreliable. Just bit the cost and replaced again. At least it's an easy replacement. Really hoping we get a version in the USA with similar features to the new euro one (no bottom drain and looks like the heating element entry into the tank is at top).

                      Very convenient!
I don’t know why we didn’t do this years ago! It’s a time saver, and more important, it saves water: When this house was built, the mechanicals room was sited on the opposide side of the house from the kitchen, so in order to get hot water, we had to turn the faucet on and let the water run until the hot finally came though. Now it’s right there all the time.

I've installed three instant hot tanks in 12yrs, in a heavy use family kitchen - pretty good. This is a great unit, installs as easy as it gets. However the dimensions listed are for the box not the product. The product not including the flange on top 11 1/4" H x 6 1/4" W x 7 3/8" D. This is very important when replacing with a similar unit. Also I was not able to find a cross reference to my previous unit I installed 5-6 years ago. The tank is two peaces, top & bottom, bolted together with at gasket between the flanges. It seems the cycles over time eventually break the seal and it begins to leak. The tank is vented to atmosphere so the top 1/4 of the tank leaks out and then it stops. Then every time you use the unit, it refills the top of the tank and it drains out again. Put a tray under the unit with a moisture sensor alarm to prevent water damage to the cabinet for when it eventually begins to leak.
