Is the magnet strong enough to hold the tray in place through a tool box liner when loaded with sockets?

Answer

Thank you for your inquiry, this will depend on how thick the liner is, if it is thin, then there should be no problem.

This socket organizer is awesome! I’ve always struggled with keeping, simultaneously, sockets organized and easily accessible. This organizer is almost perfect! It keeps the sockets organized, the magnet base holds the organizer in place and also keeps the sockets firmly in place, but also lets me effortlessly pluck them out to use them. As a bonus the organizer is 100 times easier to read the socket size than trying to see the size on the socket itself. “Almost perfect”, because it lacks a couple of sizes that won’t fit. Overall it’s has improved my tool box immensely!

Every few years I need to do a major reorganization of my tool drawers to restore order and get everything back to where it should be. This time I decided to incorporate this 3/8 Inch Drive SAE Magnetic Socket Holder from Industro into the process. The product holds 26 sockets and is compatible with regular and deep-dish sockets. The holder has a magnetic base, making it most suitable for a metal tool box. Loaded with sockets, though, it has enough weight that it stays put fine in my wooden shop drawers. My drawers are now neat and organized. This product has proven very useful - highly recommended!

I have a lot of loose sockets both regular depth and deep sockets. Up until now, I haven't had a good way to keep them organized and handy so I can find them easily when needed. I have tried the spring loaded strips that will hold your sockets but they can be a hassle to get the sockets off of. This magnetic socket organizer has really come in handy. The socket size is clearly marked on the holder and it makes it easy to find the right size socket. The magnetic bottom has enough strength to not only hold the sockets in place but it's strong enough to hold both the sockets and the holder in a vertical position. Great little addition to my workshop.

This socket holder is constructed of good solid materials. It holds 26 pieces and is magnetic. The larger socket slots were filled and the holder turned upside and the magnet is strong enough to hold the sockets in place. The magnetic back holds strong enough on the side of a tool box when the holder is full. The socket-size labeling is easily readable with white lettering against the red holder. After having used a rail type socket holder, the rail proves more flexible than this type of holder. This socket holder is limited since it will only work best with the socket that fits the designated hole. The rail type can hold any size socket and typically doesn’t have labeling for a specific socket. If you prefer this type of socket holder then the quality is certainly good. Overall socket holders of any type seem a little pricey since often times an entire socket set with a case is not much more than one holder.

I highly recommend the Industro 3/8 drive socket holder. My old case my socket set came with in 1990 was falling apart and I could never find the correct socket in its place. The lid was broken off and I cannot tell you how many times the entire set dumped on the tool bench and the floor. The Industro socket holders are extremely heavy duty and have a very strong magnetic base so that you can mount this to the inside hood of you car and grab whatever sockets you need while working. I have a picture showing the sockets being held in place while the base is upside down. The base is a heavy duty plastic and it will last beyond a lifetime. These cost a little more than other options but I highly recommend them.
