The InvisaTread/TractionWash Quart Kit is a slip resistance management system designed to help reduce the risk of slip and fall accidents at home, work and play. The kit contains 1 Qt. of InvisaTread, 1 Gal. of TractionWash, 1 pump sprayer nozzle and application instructions. InvisaTread is not a coating, but rather a safe and effective etching process that works on most tile, stone and mineral surfaces. TractionWash is our non-residue forming soap, designed to work hand in hand with InvisaTread. TractionWash is used to prepare the surface for the initial installation and should be used as the on-going daily maintenance cleaner.

A:  I used this product on ceramic tile and after the first step, making sure to follow directions, get it really clean. Then after a couple of discreet areas to test the product I found that my best results were to almost double the etching time or second step. With natural stone, in your case marble, I'd absolutely test a small area in an inconspicuous location to test the results. With marble I think you might actually bleed into the stone doing damage to the surface. Trial and error, test it this way to determine if the results are what you are looking for. Perhaps you might consider a sealer with antiskid (usually some type of fine grit) contained or added to the sealer. Usually this sealer can be removed by chemical or physical means as most sealers in the environment you are exposed to will need servicing from time to time.

    by|May 12, 2019

A:  InvisaTread is not a coating and does not seal the surface in any way. InvisaTread is a micro-etching solution that creates traction by lightly etching the surface. Yes, you can apply a water-based, penetrating/impregnating sealer after the InvisaTread treatment. We recommend Stonewalled Sealer. Do not use a topical, film-forming sealer. The Stonewalled Sealer will aid in preventing salt penetration and help to prevent spalling. Apply to saturation, follow all directions. Additional Info: The process is 4 steps Clean>Apply>Dwell>Rinse, with the biggest variable being the dwell time. Most surfaces are between 5-25 minutes, some a bit longer, some take 2 dwell times. TEST a small hidden area or extra tiles (best) to determine the optimal dwell time for your surface. DO NOT USE on polished natural stone surface unless a honed/matte finish is desired (ALWAYS TEST a small hidden area or extra tiles PRIOR TO FULL USE).

Q:Does this require a drying time before walking on it?? If so, how long?

      Answer This Question

A:  Invisatread is not a coating so there is no dry time. But there is a DWELL TIME in the application process.... CLEAN, APPLY, DWELL, RINSE. Dwell time is the biggest variable, the longer you leave it on the more traction it creates. Most surfaces are 5-25 min some are multiple dwell times. Best practice is to lay out 3-4 tiles (or a small hidden area) and test different dwell times for your particular surface. If after 25 min it's still not as strong as you'd like. Rinse, dry and s do another application. Read all directions!

After making a mistake and installing a continuation of my indoor floor tile outside our front door and on our back patio we have had to constantly have to cover the tile with indoor/outdoor carpeting as it was so slippery. We have had incidents of many slips and near falls due to the tile surface being extremely slippery when wet either from the weather or when guests would exit our pool. Even just wet bare feet or flip-flops were a hazard! Having to annually replace the carpeting as to wear and mold growth (we're in South Florida) was just a given. I came across this product and as a last resort decided to try it before I go through another years expense and annoyance of replacing the indoor/outdoor covering, again... Now that you know my story about the areas needing coverage and what we've been doing these past twenty years, the opportunity presented itself to try something new. Not another covering like carpet or a product that would just 'coat' the surface and need recoating every year or two. Plus those coatings would wear as well as look different than the original. Additionally, with the buildup of those coats and to remove that buildup to prepare the surface again presented a nightmare hence the annual use of nearly 260+ square feet of carpeting on those areas always was the easy way out, until now! Finally, a product that promised to solve my issue? I was extremely skeptical of it's claims, to say the least!!! My first task was to insure that I was free of all dirt, grime and grease that might be on the tile that I would treat. Keep in mind that I was using this not only on the front alcove of my home, about 64 square feet (see attached photo) but also on an 8 foot by 24 foot tiled area between my pool and rear entrance to my home. Over the years we played, ate & drank, applied sun tan lotion and had dropped whatever on those surfaces. They have seen bleach and all sorts of pool chemicals, automotive oils and polishes, fertilizer and weed killer and whatever one would use outside the home both in front and by the pool area. So, before I even started with the instructions for the use of the product I had my handyman, using EcoLab's ProForce Concentrated Heavy Duty Degreaser soak the areas that I was going to treat then cleaned using a gas powered 3200PS pressure washer to those areas twice on two seperate days so I know that the area was completely clean and I was down to the tile surface as it was installed over 20 years ago. Now for the installation and application of the InvisaTread/TractionWash Kit to see if it would do as it claims it would? Due to it's small size I started on just the front entrance area of my home and applied the TractionWash following the instructions, simple enough but being very weary of the claims I did a second TractionWash to insure that everything would be perfect to accept the final coating. I used about a 1:12 mix of the cleaner concentrate. Using my own (new) sprayer (one was not supplied in the package I received) I coated the smaller 64 Sq Ft area full strength with the InvisaTread and timed for a 20+ minute set insuring that the liquid InvisaTread would remain liquid and not dry on the surface before, as the instructions state, washing down that area. The spray bottle allowed me to spray areas as they started to appear to dry so I suggest you do the same. I was not immediately impressed with the results BUT the instructions and a call to the manufacturer (very helpful people!) suggests a second application which was done the following day with a 20+ minute wait before the final rinse with their product as instructed in their literature. This time the results were pretty much as claimed! In order to do this 64 Sq Ft area I used a total of about 1/2 pint of their cleaner and about a little under a full quart for the two coats using a spray bottle. I also made sure of full coverage by having a small sponge wet by the solution to wipe (using disposable latex gloves) over the entire area after the second spray application to insure that I achieved 100% coverage. Total work time was less than one hour! Results: The very next day it rained and as you can see in the attached photo we just have a sisal "Welcome" floor mat before the step up to the entryway and a floor mat by our front door. For the first time in twenty years we can see the tile that was installed and we are completely satisfied! Hopefully our pool area will work just as well (that's this weekend's project which I intend to do three 20 minute coats, just in case. I estimate it'll take under two hours) and if this product needs and annual refreshing so be it, for us it is worth the cost both in appearance, safety, time and money! This item comes in kit form with both the wash and coating as well as the coating being available separately. _______________________________________ The Manufacturer states in it's description the following: The InvisaTread/TractionWash Quart Kit is a slip resistance management system designed to help reduce the risk of slip and fall accidents at home, work and play. The product packaging and labeling is attractive. This two bottles are, one for cleaning and another one is the main product to do the slip resistance. I did 2 test area to get the maximum time. In both case I decided 16 minutes and its work. I feel on the tile that this make the tile lighter. With this slip resistance work, I finished the cleaning of tile joint and everything look perfect. Its improvement.

This product is amazing! Our garage floor gets very slippery if any moisture gets on it and it becomes very dangerous after rain or if the car is wet when put in the garage. I was ready to purchase a very costly runner to put over the most heavily walked areas but then discovered this product. We followed the directions to a T. It was very easy to apply and after it dried, it was virtually invisible and provided excellent traction! I highly recommend this product.

Appearance of product is good easy to use
Our bath tub was extremely slippery and we were tired of mats and other stick on items to prevent slipping. When I saw this product I got excited. It was easy to apply and no major prep except cleaning . The first coat did not impress me at all so I reapplied and the results were better but still not satisfactory, I applied a third (3) coat and that made a big difference seems to do the job. I will put a new coat on in about 30 days just because I have some left and want to see how it will work.

Response from THD Customer ServiceDec 10, 2013
Hi Bc95, I did reach out to the MFG for more information on this issue and below is their response to you. Please note that InvisaTread is a permanent treatment, it is NOT a coating so there is nothing to wear-off, or re-apply. To review, the process for application is: 1. Clean - and rinse the surface, remove all soap and soap residue. 2. Apply - InvisaTread with sponge mop or sprayer 3. Dwell - let stand for 6-12 minutes to develop the desired amount of traction. 4. Rinse - the surface with clean water to remove the InvisaTread solution and any residue. Multiple applications (not coats) at the initial install are sometimes necessary depending on the density of the tile and or glaze. NOTE: you should not need to re-apply InvisaTread months later. Once the desired traction is achieved, during at the initial installation, the only long term care and maintenance is to keep the floor clean. We recommend using a soap that is free rinsing and does not leave any residue (since soap residue attracts dirt, and fills in the micro-pores created InvisaTread). Please try using our TractionWash Tile and Grout cleaner (also available through HomeDepot.com) as your regular cleaner and the surface will come back the same slip resistant feel it had the day you applied the InvisaTread. Hope this information helps.

Seems to work well so far
I just purchased this a few days ago in hopes of making my shower floor less slippery. My shower has a linear drain and the floor is tiled with 12x24 porcelain tiles. With the linear drain the floor pitch is very mild but with soapy water the tiles were slippery enough to be a concern. I applied these products following directions - wash with the cleaner, rinse and dry. Apply the slip treatment, let it sit, rewash with the cleaner, rinse and dry. After reading other reviews and testing on a small section I went for two 15 minute treatments. The result has improved the traction greatly and doesn't seem to have affected the appearance at all. So, as the title says, it works well so far and I'm hoping it will last.
