Q:On e seeds are planted , how often do I water during the wait to plant outside?

Answer This Question

A:  I keep the lid on until the seedlings are pushing against it. In the past I haven't needed to add water until I take the lid off. I do keep an eye on them, and if the pellets look/feel dry, I would water enough to dampen them but not have standing water. Once the lid is off, I water them when they start to look/feel dry (which seems to be every day when they're hardening off). Good luck and enjoy!

A:  Thank you for your question. As mentioned in the community answer, water when the pellets appear to be drying out. They also make some great points in regards to the dome and don't keep the pellets soaking wet. If we can be of further help don't hesitate to reach out to our customer service team at 508.285.5800 and our best to you this season.

A:  Water when it appears they are drying out. The extra humidity helps out tremendously but soon the top will have to come off as the seedlings push against the lid. Do not keep soaking wet but do not let dry out completely either - both are deadly for young seedlings.

      by|Mar 24, 2021

A:  You will need to water at most once with the cover on. The seedlings will quickly grow too tall to keep the cover on. With the cover off simply monitor the color of the peet.

      by|Mar 30, 2021

A:  You don't want the jiffy pot to dry out. Usually once you add enough water for the plug to expand, plant your seeds and put the top on to enclose the jiffy pots your done. The plugs should remain wet enough to germinate seeds. As long as they stay moist they should be good. Add some water if the jiffy pots start to dry out but be careful because the seeds can rot with too much water. Touch the jiffy pot and if it is dry use an eye dropper to add a few drops of water. Once the plant breaks ground an inch or two you will be ready to plant outside in a bigger container. Plant the plug in the ground and do not remove the plant from the plug. As the plant grows its roots will break through the netting around the plug.

        Q:What is inside the pods?

A:  Thank you for your question. Each Pellet contains weed-free professional-grade Sphagnum peat. The absolute best medium for starting seeds. Our best to you this season.

A:  The "pods" aka pellets are filled with dried compressed peat moss. You will add warm to hot water to the container to hydrate the pellets (follow the guidelines). These are great for cuttings and seeds.

          by|Feb 1, 2021

A:  Dirt. There's no seeds. Simply place the pod in the tray, add several cups of warm water, let them expand in 30 seconds, and then put the seeds of your choice in the pod.

          by|Feb 4, 2021

A:  The pods are compressed peat moss. All you have to do is add water and it is a great seed starter. I then transferred to pots that are made out of peat to let the starters grow into small plants. Then put those pots in the soil.

            by|Feb 1, 2021

A:  I think it is dehydrated and compacted peat. Very fun to add water then watch and listen!

Q:Once started can plants be transplanted into outside garden
              by|Jun 2, 2020

              Answer This Question

A:  Once started, and 'healthy' enough yes, these can be transplanted to garden. Depending on what you are growing, some need to be acclimated before putting in final destination but that is understandable as this greenhouse is a controlled environment.

              by|Mar 26, 2022

A:  Depending on how big your seedlings get, when they're ready, I plant them pod and all right into the outside garden's soil...or large pot.

                by|Jun 4, 2020

A:  Yes, of course; that's the point, but, as I reviewed elsewhere, remove the netting from around the rootball, otherwise you definitely risk the danger of having the netting choke and kill the plant as it matures... I lost 2 to this mechanism before I figured out the problem. Now, I have to figure out how to cut the netting without digging up the healthy and almost mature plants.

                by|Jun 15, 2020

A:  Yes. Did exactly that, spent two days “hardening off” the plants.

                  by|Jul 8, 2020

A:  Absolutely. That's the main purpose behind this seed starter kit. It gives your plants a chance to develop and "toughen up" in a protected environment before going out into the harsh, cruel reality of the real world in your garden.

                    by|Jul 2, 2020

A:  Thank you for your question and yes they can be transplanted in the garden. Before you do it's best to harden the plants so they become introduced to being outside. Hardening off should take only one week. Starting off you place the seed starting kit outside in a sheltered, preferably shaded, area. Leave for a few hours and then bring back indoors before the evening. Repeat this process over the next few days, leaving in shaded spot for a little longer each day. Once they have staying outside for the entire day, start the process of moving the plants to a sunny area. Repeat the same process. For a few hours each day, move the plants from the shaded area to the sunny area increasing the length of time each day until the plants have been in the sun all day. At this time, it will also be safe for you transplant (peat pellet and all) to garden. At the start it is best to bring plants in every night however once the plants are outside all day, then you can leave them out overnight. Hope this helps and if we can be of further assistance don't hesitate to reach out to our customer service team at 508.285.5800. Our best to you!

A:  Only 3 days later and I already have seeds starting to sprout! Great product. Very easy to use. I love it.

A:  Yes. You should harden them off, but they absolutely can be placed outside!

A:  Yes no problem. I tear the bottom out so the roots come in contact with the soil you are moving the plants to. Works great for me.

Great way to start my tomatoes and peppers indoors
I used the Jiffy greenhouse in April to get a headstart on my garden. Used one row for each variety of vegetables. The greenhouse allowed me to pick the hardiest plants to transplant in my garden and patio planters. Next year I will be starting all of my flowers indoor as well.

This is my second year purchasing this product, and it is extremely easy to use - especially for a beginner. I used this last year to start my vegetable garden plants (my first time gardening) and it was so simple. You literally just push a seed into the center of each pod, and keep everything well watered. I would highly recommend this for anyone who would like to start plants from seed. I will get this product every year from now on to get my garden started!

Flimsy container and starter fill expand unevenly - seeds in it had low germination rate.
