Questions & Answers

How loud is the pressure assisted flush? Is it really “3 seconds of jet roar” AS A REVIEWER SAID....

Asked by Sandy January 1, 2018

I bought this toilet for the sleek design as I really like Kohler products. I had an issue with paper not flushing even on the first flush. You had to adjust the tank in the back of the toilet with you water pressure and it fixed the issue. Call 1-800-533-3450 and be ready to provide your serial number which is on the top of the unit. It is also good to have your model number. This Hotline goes to the supplier who built the mechanism in the tank.

Is kid a quiet close lid

Asked by Monique January 13, 2020

Yes, it is a quiet close lid. However, I do not recommend this toilet. We have two and both have leaked from the bolt that holds the internal tank in place within a year to eighteen months of purchase. The warranty did not apply. One was replaced after much argument though still had to pay installation and troubleshooting costs, the other I have not addressed yet.

Does this toilet come in Mexican Sand?

Asked by nitronita July 9, 2018

unfortunately, Kohler discontinued Mexican Sand. I have two of these in Mexican Sand and wanted to even just get a toilet seat and I have to go to Bemis to get a seat as they have the color sand (148) which Kohler says compares to their Mexican Sand. However, the toilet I want to replace with a Mexican Sand toilet, I am out of luck. :-(

Asked by GTEO July 2, 2020

This toilet replaced an identical one in which the base had cracked. We like this model because it has the Sloan Flush-Mate System, which means the toilet doesn't sweat in humid weather. This is important to us because we don't have A/C. But the new toilet is better, because the flusher on the old one would get stuck and it would run, until you lifted it up. The new toilet doesn't have that issue.

Asked by Alanv May 7, 2017

Measure from the wall (not the baseboard) to the mounting screws. It should be 12" (or slightly more is better). On mine it was exactly 12" to the wall and it just made it fit. This model is 12". The older units were much louder than these newer ones. Check the dimensions on the width, length and height to ensure it will fit in your location.

will this toilet fit under a formica counter extention from bathroom vanity?

Asked by roberta January 19, 2012

The unit is 21.5" high, and you may want to leave a few inches so you can remove the lid and get inside the tank if needed. If you have further questions, please call a customer care representative at 800-4-KOHLER.

Kohler toilter leaking

Asked by zurong September 18, 2016

I have had two, both leaked. Call Koehler then the internal tank manufacturer. They may help depending on age of toilet.

Is this product available with stainless or brushed nickel trip level handle?

Asked by Sas April 27, 2016

I had the same issue and purchased a brushed nickel trip lever kit, part number is K1025329-BN. All you have to do is unscrew the piece that came with the toilet and attach it to the new handle after removing the inside parts that came with the new handle. Super easy, it took 5 minutes. I paid $28 for the kit.

Beware seat bolts are not assessable from below.
I purchases and installed this toilet June 2016, and it works well for the intended use (power flush). About three months ago I needed to remove the seat for replacement, and the left side (facing the toilet) seat fastening bolt broke in half leaving part of it stuck inside the body of the toilet. The seat mounting bolts do not extend through to the underside of the toilet, and they are not easily assessable. The threaded portion of the seat fastener receiving the seat bolt is inserted into the toilet body from inside the tank in a tight area not visible without using a mirror to peak under a 90% turn in the casting. Using a mirror I examined the fastener holding the broken piece of seat fastening bolt, and I discovered it has rusted likely due to moister inside the tank. There is no room to use tools, and the toilet must be replaced.

Elegant design but poor flush performance
I have had the San Raphael with pressure assist flush installed for about a year. This toilet replaced an older Kohler lowboy toilet with traditional gravity based flush. While the San Raphael is an attractive bath fixture, the flush performance is extremely poor. If paper isn't dropped completely into the water, it will not go down in one flush. The traditional type of flush that "swirls" will pickup paper that may be slightly on the wall and carry it into the water and down. This defeats the purpose of being a 1 gallon per flush toilet, and is more like a (2 flush) 2 gallon per use toilet. This issue with paper going down is not an isolated occurrence - when paper is used in the toilet, 80% of the time it requires more than one flush if you aren't "aiming" your paper drop. The flush is also VERY much louder than a traditional toilet, and not great for the master bath if you need to flush when someone is asleep in the adjacent room. This toilet was very expensive, but I am at a point where it is more trouble that it's styling is worth. I would not recommend this San Raphael toilet.

JohnLN, my name is Jessica with Kohler Customer Service. I am sorry to hear of the poor flushing you are experiencing with your San Raphael toilet. We would like to make a few suggestions that we feel will help to improve the performance of your toilet. The chain connecting to the trip lever should be taut. If there is any slack, it should be tightened to remove the slack. The water level can also be checked. The water level in the tank should be at the water line which is marked on the inside back wall of the tank or on the flush valve. The refill tube can be checked as well. It should be connected at both ends connecting the fill valve to the center of the canister valve. If either end is disconnected, it should be pushed back into place. Please also ensure that there is water coming out of all of the rim holes around the bowl when the toilet is flushed. If the issue continues once the above has been verified, please contact our Customer Service team at We look forward to hearing from you soon! - Jessica P. Kohler Customer Service.

This toilet is very sleek and stylish. It only uses 1 gallon of water. When you lift the lid to the tank, the inside is different than most toilets. You will not see the flapper or water like you do with most toilets. There is a black tank inside that holds the water. The only drawback that may bother some is that it is loud whenever you flush it. I've read some reviews that say that one piece toilets need to be flushed twice. This one seems to work good for me. I also have 2 other one piece toilets and have had no problems with them. I would recommend this toilet.

2.0 gpf after two flushes!
Customer review from logo
We have owned the San Raphael model for at least 5 years but just replaced it with a competitor's 1.2 gpf toilet. Despite calls to Kohler, adjustments to the flush mechanism and even replacement of the flush valve, this toilet would never empty the bowl in a single flush. Great design -- poor performance.
