Product Overview

Kellogg Garden Organics All Natural Premium Outdoor Potting Mix is a ready-to use mix for all your outdoor container gardening projects. We use aged wood fines in our soil mixes for better soil structure which helps with deeper penetration of air and water to promote strong root development for healthy plant growth. HOW TO USE: Put soil in the bottom of the container and place the root ball 2-4 in. from the top edge, and continue to fill pot pressing firmly on soil as you go. We recommend adding an organic granular fertilizer at the time of planting and every 5-6 weeks throughout the growing season. Good soil for starting plants in a raised bed. It stays lose enough for seedlings to grow. Transplants well also.

Basically shredded wood
I purchased this “soil” to plant my tomatoes in - however, it is basically shredded wood with a few flecks of perlite thrown in so they can say they put it in there.

The use of aged wood fines is more common in organic soil mixes than conventional synthetic soil mixes. We use fully composted aged wood fines in our soil mixes for three reasons – Better soil structure with its slightly larger particle size helps air and water penetrate deeper into the soil, allowing for better root development and overall plant health – Excellent food source for beneficial soil microbes which help plants resist pests and disease – A more sustainable resource benefiting the environment. No doubt, it does look different than conventional peat-based soil mixes. KelloggGardenProducts

We purchased the Kellogg Garden Organics All Natural Premium Outdoor Potting Mix because we wanted to have good looking and lasting flowers in our under window flower boxes of our newly renovated house facade. The mix has made this gardening effort easy and a pleasure to behold. Highly recommended.

High quality organic potting mix with no rocks, clay clumps or big sticks
Very nice quality potting soil, for a reasonable price. And an extra bonus that it is organic. I have purchased about 7 bags to pot starter trees, and found consistent quality, no rocks, no clay balls and no big sticks. Everything I planted is doing great. I have already gone back for a second lot, after the first 3 bags were so nice.

    Chunks of paving in mix
I bought 10 bags of this and am finding chunks of road pavement in the mix. Too soon to know if this mix will be good for plants despite this.

I am so happy that I had purchased this! And my plants are happy too! Also I haven't seen any of the usual suspects eating my vegetables plants this year since I've used this! Next year I'm purchasing 2 bags! Happy harvest ya'll!

You get what you pay for.
Bought this brand because it was the least expensive. It seems to be mostly unbroken down wood. Everything I planted in failed to thrive. It doesn't hold water well and I believe it lacks nutrients. Picture shows potatoes and peach trees planted in this soil (left) vs a different generic potting mix (right). I also used it for (all my) onions and fig trees with similar disappointing results. Nothing grows when planted in it.

Organic soil mixes tend to have a low NPK. We like to recommend adding an organic granular fertilizer at the time of planting to provide a slow release of nutrients since these get used up by the plant over time. Edibles for example, are heavy feeders and will not produce a very good crop without adding nutrients through the growing season. Doing so will ensure consistent plant growth and yield. Apply every 5-6 weeks during the growing season. Supplement the granular fertilizer with an organic liquid fertilizer like Fish & Kelp every 2-3 weeks with your regular watering routine. This provides more immediate, plant-available nutrients. Using these two fertilizers in combination will yield the best results! KelloggGardenProducts

        Terrible mix
I bought one bag of this a few months ago and thought that mulch had been mis packaged in a potting mix bag. My husband bought 5 more bags a few months later not realizing it was the same brand and it is the same. It is all wood chips! I’ll be returning the unopened bags and won’t use this again.

          Something is wrong
I have to throw out everything I mixed the soil with. Hours of work and waisted materials. After trying so hard to do the right thing, I could cry. It’s weirdly dense and will not drain even with a ton of perlite.

Thank you for your feedback. The blended formulation of aged wood fines and peat should result in a lighter, less dense potting mix. We will have someone contact you to get additional information. KelloggGardenProducts
