HOW TO USE: Put soil in the bottom of the container and place the root ball 2-4 in. from the top edge, and continue to fill pot pressing firmly on soil as you go. A:  Our All Natural Premium Outdoor Potting Mix is completely peat-free.

A:  It doesn't have coir. It had lot of unbroken down wood chips. It would have worked better as mulch.

Q:will microwaving the soil kill the fruit flies and nat eggs in the outdoor soil ?

          Answer This Question

A:  I do not know. What I do is spread out my old soil or compost on a large tarp. I mix diatomateous earth all through out and let it bake in the sun for a couple of days. I turn the soil every now and then. Another method I use is a water and peroxide bath for the soil. Use enough water to cover your soil and 1/2 cup of peroxide per gallon of water. Let that soak for at least 20 minutes. Drain the soil well and allow it to also air dry in the hot baking sun if possible. That's all I have. Hope this helps.

A:  Use diatomaceous earth that will get rid of the fungus flies and other annoying pests . This will also add silica and contains 15 essential trace minerals including phosphorous, selenium, calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium, copper, zinc and iron.

A:  It is not a method that we use. Fungus gnats are attracted to damp organic matter. Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry before watering again to make the soil less desirable for them and they will disappear.

NOT Potting Soil—Disgusting, Sticky, Brown, Stains
Purchased one month ago. The potting soil is mostly mulch and is dyed black. When I watered the pots with this potting soil in them, they would drain dark brown/black water that would stain everything in a sticky mess. In addition, the soil does NOT hold moisture well. After a month of dealing with the mess and dry plants, I returned the remaining potting soil and purchased Miracle Grow potting soil to replace it. Now I have no mess and moist plants.

I should have bought ANYTHING else
I bought this outdoor mix this year since I could not find an alternative organic outdoor potting mix. What a terrible mistake! This product has been terrible and is staining all of my patios upon each watering for weeks now. I have never experienced this with any other potting mix before. A representative from the company told me what to buy to get rid of the stains and to overwater… NOT HELPFUL. Maybe make a better product.

                    All plants stunted
I thought this would be a nice option to try. But basically it’s a bag of wet bark mulch. All my seedlings that I started literally either turned yellow, stopped growing or just died. I’m not inexperienced in gardening. But I’m truly upset about this product and will never buy again.

Yellowing leaves and stems are an indication the plants have used up the nutrients and those nutrients need to be replaced with regular fertilizing. We like to recommend adding an organic granular fertilizer at the time of planting to provide a slow release of nutrients since these get used up by the plant over time. Veggie plants for example, are heavy feeders and will not produce a very good crop without adding nutrients through the growing season. Doing so will ensure consistent plant growth and yield. Apply every 5-6 weeks during the growing season. KelloggGardenProducts

More like mulch than potting soil
I am an experienced gardener who has started garden plants from seed for decades. I used this product to pot my tomato seedlings. They turned yellow within a week, obviously from lack of nutrition. Fortunately, I still have time to rescue my plants with other potting options. Lousy product.

The use of aged wood fines is more common in organic soil mixes than conventional synthetic soil mixes. It mimics the natural and organic activity that occurs on the forest floor. For nearly 100 years, we have used fully composted aged wood fines in our soil mixes for three reasons – Better soil structure with its slightly larger particle size helps air and water penetrate deeper into the soil, allowing for better root development and overall plant health – Excellent food source for beneficial soil microbes which help plants resist pests and disease – A more sustainable resource benefiting the environment. No doubt, it does look different than conventional synthetic peat-based soil mixes. KelloggGardenProducts

                          Don't Buy This!
Seeds germinated fine but quit growing after a couple of weeks. See photo: seedlings planted at the same time. On left planted in Miracle Gro and seedling on right was planted in Kellogg's Potting Mix. Enough said.

                            Not my favorite
I am not entirely happy with this soil. It has chunks of wood on it. It is not soft and fine. It is chunky and holds moisture to the point some things have died when planted in it. I think it would be ok if mixed with other soil. It is not something I will buy again. I switched to another brand of organic soil. Maybe good for planting trees? I used for container planting for vegetables and flowers. The vegetables and flowers planted at same time with same watering and fertilizer are doing better than those planted in this product.
